Men in Black 3 (Trailer)

I’ve always been a fan of Will Smith films, and Men in Black is one of those fun films you can watch over and over again. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back this summer with another secret operation to save the earth from Aliens. Im definitely looking forward to this.

“In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.”

The Secret Life of Bees (DVD)

secret_life_of_bees_xlgBased on a novel by Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees is a powerful story of love, hate, and reconciliation. Set in the eastern state of South Carolina during the initiation of the Civil Rights Act, this film depicts the life of a young white girl named Lily, who believes in bad karma, struggles to discover her own identity, and deals with the ugliness of racism in America.

Upon first watching this film, I honestly expected another one of those Tyler Perry type flicks. I’m not trying to sound prejudiced at all, but when I think of a predominantly female African American cast, Perry’s films always seem to come to mind first. However, by the end of this feature, I was pleasantly surprised with a excellent film which focused on a good script and even better dialogue.

What really made The Secret Life of Bees special for me was its casting. I can’t recall another film were I cared so much for each and everyone of its characters. Every member of its cast fit their roles perfectly. The conviction, fortitude, and demeanor they put into their characters were apparent throughout and it was definitely their performances which propelled The Secret Life of Bees to being one of the best films of 2008.

Seven Pounds (Theaters)

The Pursuit of Happyness was such a huge success that it didn’t surprise me when I found out Will Smith would be teaming up with director Gabriele Muccino for a second run at the box office.

Although Seven Pounds started out fairly slow and had a few obscure scenes, as it progressed and unraveled itself it turned out to be an excellent film that most moviegoers will not easily forget.

The cast was really what made this film work. Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Barry Pepper and Woody Harrelson all put on outstanding performances in this feature and it would actually surprise me if Seven Pounds were not nominated for several awards by the start of the new year.

I’d would have liked to go a little more into depth with the storyline, but I think I would give away a little too much and ruin the film for alot of readers here. The secretive and ambiguous nature of this film definitely was the reason why it was so special for me and I’m sure its will be that way for others who have yet to see it.

On a final note, just be sure to bring alot of tissue if you decide to catch this in theaters. I won’t say much except that the film definitely toys with your emotions and its definitely a film to be viewed with a spouse or significant other.
