Antonella Barba. The next American Idol?

070228_idol_vmed_7p.widecI’ve been keeping track of American Idol 6 primarily because my wife loves the show. I guess you can call it our quality time together. So far, I think that Lakisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle are the frontrunners to win the competition when the season comes to its end. Based on their performances, I think that the both of them are at a much higher level vocally than the rest of the contestants. I also have high hopes for Chris Sligh, but I just don’t feel he’ll get enough votes from the public. I just can’t see the fans wanting him as their next American Idol.

Then comes Antonella Barba. I’m not sure if anyone realizes this, but the girl is extremely hot with a mediocre voice. I told my wife that I thought she was very beautiful, but when I first heard her sing in Hollywood, I was almost certain that she would not make the final 24. I was wrong. She not only made the final 24, but continues to get enough votes in each round to move on and has ousted much better talent than herself. I honestly feel that much of the reason for her success is due to her beauty, nude photos, and other interesting media on the internet.

We all need to take a step back and realize what this competition is all about. Its primary about the contestants vocal talent and consistency. Yes, she can hold a note and she is better than many other singers I’ve heard in the past, but she is definitely not the best on the show. If she makes it much farther, I think it will be a disgrace to the competition.

Jason Kidd to the Lakers?

jasonkiddI been seeing rumors all around the internet linking Jason Kidd to the Los Angeles Lakers before the deadline this season. I usually dismiss most of these rumors because the Lakers never seem to make any trades before the deadline. The last trade I can remember is the Lakers aquiring Glenn Rice for Eddie Jones. What a idiot move.

Anyway, during the recent All Star Weekend, it seems that Kidd and Bryant have been spending quite a lot of time hanging out and talking to each other. Could the Lakers actually be making a move? I’m sure Buss would have to pay a luxury tax, but we do have a grip of expiring contracts that might be enough to entice the Nets who seem to be on the verge of rebuilding. Continue reading

Rest in Peace James Brown

What a huge loss in the music community. I love soul music and he was it’s godfather. Rest in Peace James Brown.

James Brown, who “made soul music a world music” in a hard-driving career that influenced generations of musicians from rock to rap, died Christmas morning at the age of 73.

The pompadoured dynamo whose classic singles include “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag” and “I Got You (I Feel Good)” had been hospitalized over the weekend for treatment of pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital. He died there early Monday of heart failure, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music.

“People already know his history, but I would like for them to know he was a man who preached love from the stage,” said friend Charles Bobbit, who was with Brown when he died. “His thing was ‘I never saw a person that I didn’t love.’ He was a true humanitarian who loved his country.”
