The Other Boleyn Girl (DVD)

other_boleyn_girl_ver2_xlgIf you remove all the preconceptions that this film is suppose to be historically accurate, The Other Boleyn Girl is actually a fairly decent flick. The film was well acted and both Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman put on strong performances alongside Australian born actor Eric Bana who portrays a believable Henry VII.

I’m not a fan of soap operas whatsoever, yet I can’t describe this film in any other way. Its just one big budget soap with some extra bells and whistles. The Other Boleyn Girl definitely has all the elements for a Daytime Emmy and the plot is filled with enough passion, betrayal, intrigue and romance to satisfy any soap opera fan.

Although the film lacked any real action or violence, it kept me entertained enough to finish it. If your one of those individuals who enjoy a drama filled movie and are fans of a good soap opera, this movie is definitely for you.

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (DVD)

mr_magoriums_wonder_emporiumMr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium was wonderful family film. It instantly reminded me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory minus all the creepiness and flowing chocolate waterfalls.

The storyline was simple yet agreeable for a family audience. I think it serves as a great film for kids of all ages and it teaches children the importance and value of confidence and good self-esteem.

Dustin Hoffman is always a crowd favorite when it comes to children’s films, and he does an excellent job portraying Mr. Magorium in the movie. Natalie Portman can do no wrong, her timeless face and innocent demeanor was a perfect match for her role, and she continues to impress me with her ability to take on so many different characters.

My assessment? A decent rental for a quality afternoon with your kids, but not worth purchasing for a DVD collection.
