Who will replace Gil Grissom in CSI?

003Television’s most watched crime show is getting a makeover. When I first heard the news that William Petersen would be leaving Crime Scene Investigation I was in total shock. Being a huge fan of the crime series particularly the Vegas edition, I just couldn’t imagine Petersen being replaced. Gil Grissom is without a doubt my favorite character on the show and it will definitely be odd without him there to lead Vegas’s elite forensic team.

Since Peterson’s announcement, I’ve heard multiple rumors regarding three possible candidates for his replacement including Laurence Fishburne, John Malkovich, and Kurt Russell. Although I’m not a huge fan of any of these actors, I do agree that Fishburne is probably the best fit for Petersen’s replacement. This was the description of Fishburne’s new character as reported on Yahoo.

Fishburne is being heavily courted to play the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn’t previously acted on any homicidal impulses.

So who do you think would be the best replacement? Should it be Fishburne, or does Malkovich and Russell sound like enticing to you. I still can’t believe Grissom will no longer be on the show!!

Vick guilty of dogfighting?

vickThe negative stereotypes about the American Pitbull Terrier are creeping back due to the huge media coverage involving Atlanta Falcon’s star quarterback Michael Vick.

Although I’m a huge fan of the NFL and I was looking forward to watching Vick and recently acquired Joe Horn play together, I feel that Vick should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, if he was indeed involved in the dogfighting allegations. According to many reports I’ve read recently, Vick was indeed involved with fighting pitbulls.

I believe Vick had a passion for dogfighting. I know many athletes who share his passion. The allure is the intensity and the challenge of a dog fighting to the death. It’s like ultimate fighting, but the dog doesn’t tap out when he knows he can’t win.

It reminds me of when I wore a lot of jewelry back in the day because I always wanted to have the biggest chain or the biggest, baddest car. It gives you status.

“He’s a pit bull fighter,” the source said of Vick. “He’s one of the ones that they call ‘the big boys’: that’s who bets a large dollar. And they have the money to bet large money. As I’m talking about large money — $30,000 to $40,000 — even higher. He’s one of the heavyweights.”

~ ESPN Confidential Source

The 52 pit bulls found on Vick’s estate were mostly emaciated, authorities said, kept ravenously hungry so that they would eagerly assail the flesh of the dogs they met in the ring. The losing animals, the indictment said, were sometimes executed if they didn’t die in the fight. One dog, the grand jury reported, was hosed down after a loss and then electrocuted.

I’ve owned Trench (my pitbull) for a couple years now and I can’t understand why people would fight these awesome dogs. They are loyal, protective, determined, and most of all not aggressive if you teach them right and treat them well. I’ve always been against dogfighting and animal cruelty and if Vick is indeed guilty, its time to face up to the crime and do the time. Dogfighting is illegal in all 50 states and a felony in most of them as well. Maybe six years in prison, a $350,000 fine, and being expelled from football and losing all endorsements will open the eyes of other “stars” who think they can get away with anything because of their so called celebrity status.

What are your thoughts on this?
Do you think he is guilty? He has already plead not guilty, so it looks like the trial will be a long fought one.

CSI vs. Law and Order SVU

Law and Order SVUWhen the original Law and Order was released, I thought it was very uninteresting. Much of the original show focused on the prosecution of criminals in the courtroom. I know that many people loved it, and believe me I tried to as well, but it just didn’t do it for me. The original seemed to spend too much time in courtroom rather than on the field for my liking.

A couple good friends of mine started watching Law and Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) and recommended it to me when it was released in ’99. They swore it was the best thing on TV and I had to see it. After watching the original I was very skeptical and blew the series off the entire first season. That all changed on uneventful evening and after the first two episodes I was completely hooked. I’m sure I have missed a few since I’ve started watching the series, but whats great about SVU is most of the episodes are pretty self-contained making it easy to watch at anytime without getting lost.

The series is very gritty and the characters really grab a hold of you while your trying to figure out who committed the crime. The stories are also well drawn out and more than half of them are unpredictable until the very end. Just yesterday I spent my entire day watching a marathon on USA. It was time well spent! haha.

CSI LAS VEGAS

CSI or Criminal Scene Investigation is something fairly new on my radar. I started watching this series just this past summer. At work all my colleagues are die-hard Vegas fans and they kept telling me how great the series was. I’ve just recently borrowed season one and two from the Vegas series and it has become my new addiction.

I guess after years of watching SVU I just did not want to give this series or any other criminal investigation series a chance. What a mistake! The storylines are just as compelling as SVU and the characters are just as good.

What I really liked about CSI was the CGI that helped viewers understand what exactly happened internally to the victims. It was pretty cool. I thought that was what really set the series apart from SVU. Other than that, I can’t really say which series is the better one. Both have extremely well drawn out storylines. Both have a great set of characters. I can’t really decide which one I’d rather watch. Guess its both for me! haha. Your thoughts?
