Hancock (Theaters)

hancockWill Smith has always been one of my favorite actors to watch on the bigscreen. Since his appearance as Mike Lowrey in Bad Boys back in ‘95, I have loyally watched every film he has appeared in. Unfortunately, Smith chose the wrong film to star in this year. During a summer where blockbuster superhero films have dominated the box office, Hancock completely fumbled and flopped.

The premise of the storyline was a really promising one. Something out of the box and different from the rest. However, with such poor execution and a lack of an antagonist for that true superhero experience, this film was just not very good.

I thought Smith did his best to make the film as entertaining as possible, but even with his charm and genuine humor, he could not save it from mediocracy. I would rank Hancock right there beside Wild Wild West. One of Smith’s missteps throughout his otherwise phenomenal career.

To be completely honest with you, I’d recommend you skip this film altogether and save your money for Hell Boy II and The Dark Knight. I have a very strong feeling that the Dark Knight will in fact surpass Spider-Man in the race for all time USA Box Office sales. Mark your calendars for July 18th!

Synopsis:

PH4LP58dJ8ga74_mA hard-drinking lush finds himself thrust into superhero mode in director Peter Berg’s unconventional look at the private life of a crime-fighter. Will Smith stars as the embittered do-gooder whose lifestyle is more akin to a rock star than a role model, and who has grown as disillusioned with his once-admiring public as they have of him. - Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

  1. @Film - I have to agree with you. I went opening night hoping that the casting of Smith would have created a great film. However, that stupid ending really ruined it for me.

  2. Hancock had a lot of potential, it could have been this summers Darkman in only they had thrown in that moronic twist.

  3. You were right about The Dark Knight beating Superman 3, good call!
I do want to see Hancock but now I’m a little wary of shelling out the cash if it’s only as good (or as bad) as Wild Wild West. Might be a wait for DVD thing.

  7. Still haven’t gotten the chance to look at this movie - tried watching online but it took forever to download. But the word on the streets is that this movie not all that and it’s not one of Will Smith best screen performances.

spirit_ver10Adapted from the Will Eisner's graphic novels, "The Spirit" tells the story of a man who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has other plans. He's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this coldhearted killer from the city's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront...all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill the masked crusader.

kimbo_slice_elite_xcI've been in a pick'em league over at S2 to I figured I post my selections here on the site during each mixed martial art event.

As much as I would like to see Kimbo get a loss it wont happen versus Shamrock. Shamrock's going to try and prove a point and stand and bang and he's going to eat fist. lol. Did anyone see the weigh in's for Gina Carano? She had to bear all to make weight!

    My predictions:
    Kimbo Slice - KO1
    Jake Shields-KO R2
    Andre Arlovski-KO R1
    Gina Carano- Sub R2
    Murilo "Ninja" Rua-KO R3
    Yoko - Sub R1
