Why did I get Married? (DVD)

OneSheet (Page 1)After watching this film yesterday evening with my wife, I can’t understand how this movie got such terrible reviews on The Internet Movie Database (3.4/10). The only explanation I could conceive was that these people who rated the film had never actually watched it.

With that said, I thought that “Why did I get Married?” was an excellent film. The two primary reasons for its success were definitely the powerful storyline and its amazing cast.

The storyline was quite a refreshing change from all the stereotypical movies I’ve watched lately involving the African American Community. Instead of focusing on drug pushing, street gangs, and the ghetto fabulous lifestyle, this film centered on many of the hardships that come along with balancing out the commitments to a successful career, spouse, and family.

Perry did an absolutely wonderful job with choosing the film’s cast members. All of them put on excellent performances, but it was Malik Yoba, Tasha Smith, and Jill Scott whom I felt really made an impact on the movie’s landscape.

I enjoyed this film very much and would definitely watch it with the wife again. The film’s reference to the 80/20 rule is absolutely true and is something every man/woman need to reflect on. If you haven’t seen it yet with your spouse, its time to pick it up! Its definitely worth a look!

Synopsis:

A big-screen adaptation of Perry’s hit stage play of the same title, ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ is an intimate story about the difficulty of maintaining a solid love relationship in modern times. During a trip to the picturesque snowcapped mountains of Colorado, eight married college friends have gathered for their annual seven-day reunion. But the cozy mood is shattered when the group comes face-to-face with one pair’s infidelity. As secrets are revealed, each couple begins questioning the validity of their own marriage. Over the course of the weekend, husbands and wives take a hard look at their lives, wrestling with issues of commitment, betrayal and forgiveness as they seek a way forward.

really? i thought this movie was subpar. a lot of dialogue. lot of drama. i felt alot of the story was missing, i wasnt really too sure where the moving was going… i was hoping to see MADEA in the flick.
im just glad there was no gospel singing which usually accompanies his plays.

2 out of 5 stars for me.
