Superbad (Theaters)

superbadSuperbad was a decently entertaining film, but based on the ratings from Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb over the past several weeks, I definitely had higher expectations for the screening and left the theater very disappointed. The movie didn’t feature anything new or innovative and it lacked any of those “that was fu*kin hilarious” type of scenes.

The plot was your typical teen movie script. Lots of sexual references, vulgar language, and more sexual references. The girls acted slutty, the males were either a bunch of bullies or dorks, and everyone was into having parties and drinking boos.

The real highlight of this film was its cast. I thought that Seth, Evan, and Fogell made for a very interesting trio, and the supporting cast which included the two obnoxious cops actually save the film from being totally mundane.

Being much older now (and hopefully wiser), I guess I have lost the taste for films that are just full of nonsense and inanity. Most teens would definitely get a kick out of this film, but for those of us that need some kind of substance in a movie this will definitely leave you disappointed. I still haven’t found anything much funnier than Jim slipping his fingers in a cherry pie before banging the hell out of it in a kitchen with his dad looking on. I guess I just have to keep hoping and waiting.

Synopsis:

From producers Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson (’The 40-Year-Old Virgin’), screenwriters Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen (’Da Ali G Show’), and director Greg Mottola comes ‘Superbad,’ a coming-of-age cautionary tale about two socially inept teenage boys about to graduate high school. Theirs is a ridiculously dependent friendship — but now they’ve gotten into different colleges and are forced to contemplate life apart. Evan (Michael Cera) is sweet, smart, and generally terrified. Seth is foul-mouthed, volatile, and all-consumed with the topic of human sexuality. This is the story of their misguided attempts to reverse a lifelong losing streak with the ladies in one panic-driven night… that awful, humiliating night you cherish for the rest of your life.

  2. well gee…*sigh*
I have to admit that I liked the humor in this movie. Or maybe I just needed a good laugh that day…

  3. The first time I heard of this movie, it was through watching a snippit on YouTube about one of the character’s need to draw penises all over the place. I knew from then the humour was going to be inane. I would love to watch this for laughs, but only when I am in the mood for really stupid humour.

  5. I like to think I am stupid enough to still love teen movies. Not stupid teen movies though. Stupid college movies? Yes. We’ll see when I get a chance to watch this, though in VN, not sure it’ll come out. Seeing Ratatouille this weekend though.

  • The Spirit (Latest Theatrical Trailer) -#

spirit_ver10Adapted from the Will Eisner's graphic novels, "The Spirit" tells the story of a man who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has other plans. He's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this coldhearted killer from the city's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront...all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill the masked crusader.

kimbo_slice_elite_xcI've been in a pick'em league over at S2 to I figured I post my selections here on the site during each mixed martial art event.

As much as I would like to see Kimbo get a loss it wont happen versus Shamrock. Shamrock's going to try and prove a point and stand and bang and he's going to eat fist. lol. Did anyone see the weigh in's for Gina Carano? She had to bear all to make weight!

    My predictions:
    Kimbo Slice - KO1
    Jake Shields-KO R2
    Andre Arlovski-KO R1
    Gina Carano- Sub R2
    Murilo "Ninja" Rua-KO R3
    Yoko - Sub R1
