The Last Legion (Theaters)

last_legionAs a fan of movies involving medieval times and legends I had high hopes for this film. Unfortunately the film did not live up to my expectations.

The Last Legion was anything but epic. It dragged in so many areas and the storyline for the film although promising, was very poorly executed on the bigscreen. The acting was really bad, the dialogue was horrible, and the plot so predictable to the point where it just felt like a public television special rather than an actual box office release.

The movie did have a couple bright spots of comedy that gave the crowd a light laugh, but otherwise it was very slow and uninspiring. There were no epic battle sequences or even words of wisdom that I can remember from the film.

The best thing going for the film was actually the gorgeous actress Aishwarya Rai. There was a scene where she came out of the water… wow! During the rest of the feature my thoughts were fixed on figuring out where I had seen her before. I finally got home and looked her up and realized she was in a film I watched called The Mistress of Spices.

As for the film itself, I highly recommend you skip it in theaters. Its really not worth the price of admission. Now that I think about it, we should have watched the 3:15 showing on Halloween instead. At least Michael knows how to act.

Synopsis:

“The Last Legion” is a fantasy action-adventure in the vein of “The Sword and the Stone” set against the fall of Rome and its last emperor, 12 year-old Romulus Augustus, the boy who would rule for a day before losing all that he loved: his family, his home, and an empire that once stood for truth and honor. Imprisoned on the island-fortress of Capri, Romulus searches for a means of escape. He discovers instead “excaliburnus,” the legendary sword of Julius Caesar, and realizes that he must do all in his power to save Rome. Aided by the clever strategies of his teacher, Ambrosinus, and the heroic skills of his loyal legionnaire, Aurelius, Romulus escapes the island. Accompanied by his friends and a mysterious envoy from Constantinople, Romulus travels to Britannia in search of the last Roman Legion - the fabled Dragon Legion. There, Romulus will fight alongside his friends to make his last stand for Rome and take his first steps to becoming a man and the king who would father a legend.

stale balale…i too really dig the historically themed movies, this movie was very dissapointing…wasnt what i expected based on the title, but thats my fault for not reading up on it…i would’ve went with maybe not “halloween” but “superbad” or even “war”..the best part of this movie for me was the theatre we watched it in…
