Beer Glorious Beer

s_heinekenI may not be a beer drinking professional or know how a “good” beer should taste, but I do know what I like.

For the past few years I’ve been a pretty loyal Heineken drinker, but it was a taste that I had acquired overtime. I started drinking this at a friends request and I found the beer to be very refreshing and smooth in comparison to other beers I have tasted before. The aftertaste was something that I had to get a bit used to, but the fact that it made me feel good and didn’t give me a hangover the following morning, made it my beer of choice.

Although I drink primarily Heineken, I’m always open to trying other brand’s of beer, so if your beer savvy and want to recommend a good one, feel free to post it here.

These are the few beers I have drank in the past. Most are cheap American Beers, but I’m not a die-hard beer enthusiast so don’t laugh. I’m just the average guy who enjoys pounding down a couple rounds with the guys and having a good time.

Miller Lite- My first beer. My grandfather used to drink this stuff and I would steal a sip of it here and there as a kid. When I finally started drinking beer regularly, this was the first beer I drank, but the only thing I recall was using the restroom a lot and having to drink a load of it to get any kind of decent buzz.

Miller Genuine Draft- I got a better buzz of this Miller product, but I seriously don’t care for its taste.

IceHouse- Bleh. Strong beer, but tastes gross. Probably the worst tasting out of the beers I’ll be posting about today. I drank it a few times with friends because it was on special at the bar, but I don’t think specials are worth drinking this one.

Mickeys- Mickeys is a decent malt beer and the best tasting from the Miller line of beers I have tried. Great for a good buzz but I’d still skip this over if it were strictly for the taste.

Bud Light- A much better tasting beer than Miller Lite, but otherwise, the same result. Lots of beer drinking, a little buzz, and restroom breaks all night.

Budweiser- The staple beer of America and Guam! A decent tasting beer that really gets the job done. I would drink this beer more often since its almost always on special and in all the local pubs but I get splitting headaches the next morning.

Bud Ice- Similar results to Budweiser. Bad aftertaste.

Amberbock- Love this beer on draft and the best Anheuser-Busch product on the market in my opinion. The problem I have is finding it regularly in bars on Guam. This would probably be the beer I’d drink regularly if it were in all the establishments I visited. Good stuff.

Samuel Adams- My brother in law drinks this stuff. The only way I can describe it is… It tastes like wood. Maybe it has to do with the extra hops, but the added flavoring is not too great.

Picked up a six of Peroni at Cost-U-Less a couple days ago. It was almost $9. My comment on it is that it is a beer that really goes well with food. I really like Japanese beers mainly because of how well they go with food, and I think that the Italians may have a similar philosophy when it comes to beer. Food-oriented cultures tend to think the same way.

Great post, Trench! I like Bud myself, but since I live in Singapore, it’s easier to get the local brand, Tiger. I also enjoy the occasional Guinness and even Carlsberg, Heineken and I think had Miller once. I used to hate the taste of beer, but now it’s growing on me. =P

@mimi. Peroni huh? Got to try that out. I was hoping for Heineken Light to pop up on Guam but haven’t seen it yet.

Well, being the German beer drinker that I am, I mostly go for local brews like Jever (bitter stuff), Jever dark and Beck’s myself. Since my days in Ireland I also like Guinness, Beamish and Murphys very much as well as Fosters though I wouldn’t dare to taste one with the other local brews around. Anyways, as I could ramble on for hours, Heinecken (and Budweiser) isn’t a bad choice in comparison to Miller which nothing more like water and foam. That’s just my opinion and I am still very happy to try some exotic beers from time to time.

Heffenzweizen!! I found that Rogue’s brew of it is at Mac N Marti’s and Mermaid Tavern. I also did like Mermaid’ Tavern’s local brews, especially their Oatmeal Stout. In California, I like to drink Fat Tire, another amber ale or Stella Artois, a light brew.
Here on Guam everyone drinks Bud or Miller. I usually opt for Heineken or Peroni, an italian brand that is almost like a lighter version of Heineken and is starting to pop up everywhere. I’m a girl so those strong bitter beers aren’t for my palette. But I do love the Heff. Geez I have a lot to say about beer, more than I thought. lol.

I’m not a beer drinker myself but my auntie’s German husband loves the San Miguel beer which is the Philippines’ most popular beer. I guess it must be good since Germans are known to be a beer loving country, right? :D

Even though Heineken is the official beer of the Rugby World Cup. I’m a Carlsberg girl myself. There’s a certain sweetness to it that I like. I don’t think there’s such a thing as great tasting beer, just like there’s no such thing as great tasting wine… it’s all personal preference really.

I can’t say I care for any of those you listed… at least of the one’s I’ve tasted. I have yet to try Amberbock and Mickey’s. When I’m in Canada though… I like my Alexander Keith’s when I’m up at the Cottage with some friends. Nothing like a good ol’ Canadian beer to go with the Canadian sunset :D

I like Sam Adams. The BF turned me on to it. We especially like the winter ale. For an inexpensive alternative, we drink Newcastle Brown Ale. I also like Yeungling, but the BF hates it. I guess I just like my beers dark. Just my two cents.

I have to agree with you on the Amberbock. Really great tasting beer. It’s interesting how my taste in beers has changed. I used to hate Miller Lite, but I found that it is among the better domestics when you are eating Japanese foods.
