Jordin Sparks is our American Idol

American IdolJordin Sparks was simply amazing last night. Her voice was so perfect it actually sent goosebumps down my spine. After hearing Blake perform the song “This is my Now” I knew even before Jordin went up, that her rendition of the song would win America’s hearts. She clearly outclassed Blake vocally with that tune.

I actually thought that America was going to vote for the wrong person. The crowd seemed to cheer much more for Blake during the evening, and it just seemed that people were voting based on popularity rather than vocally. After 74 million votes and at the end of a pretty disappointing season, America got it right. Congratulations Jordin! You deserve it!

Lyrics to the song “This is my Now” can be found here. Jordin’s myspace can be found here and the actual performance can be seen here.

Randy Jackson’s early prediction that “curly hair will win this year,” came to fruition last night as Jordin Sparks became the sixth American Idol. After receiving more votes than any U.S. president — a majority of the 74 million in total — the 17-year-old Arizona powerhouse singer edged out Seattle beatboxer Blake Lewis, 25, during the sixth season finale.

  1. Jordin really deserves to win. Like you, I was worried that people would vote for the wrong person. I was expecting an all female finals coz Melinda is way better than Blake. If it were a Melinda-Jordin final, I won’t mind who ever wins as I consider both as the two best contestants in this year’s American Idol.

    Congratulations Jordin! :D

  2. yeah, Melinda was much better than blake. Good thing he didn’t win!

  3. Let’s not get carried away about Jordin outclassing Blake. I liked them both and didn’t care who won, but that cheesy song was Jordin’s kind of song. 90% of the most popular acts today couldn’t make that crappy song sound decent. Imagine Maroon 5 trying to sing it.

But congrats to Jordin. I think she’ll do well, but I’m more than glad that the worst Idol season in history is officially over.

  4. Vocally? You really think Blake was close to being as good as Jordin? I think Blake was the best performer on the show and has the best stage presence. I also think his beboppin is just sick. But based on just vocals, Jordin blows Blake away by miles.

  5. She sung the song better, but to say that she outclassed Blake carries other implications. Ballads fit her voice and style. I mean, when Michael Jordan didn’t do so well in baseball, did anyone say he was “outclassed”?? No.

Jordin IS the better singer and I was glad she won. But the song they picked at the end certainly played in her favor. Blake losing was a win for him since he won’t have to record that song for an album.

    I saw the result as a win/win.

  6. i agree. The ballad did make the last song easier for her to sing than for Blake. I just thought she did better with all three performances with the exception of the first. Blake did a great job with the first song and its uniqueness, but it dropped really bad with his last two songs. That Maroon Five song didn’t really showcase his voice or stage presence at all, and the last song was not his type of song at all.

Yeah, I can see where you are coming from with the WIN/WIN thing. It would have been terrible if Blake ended up recording that song!

spirit_ver10Adapted from the Will Eisner's graphic novels, "The Spirit" tells the story of a man who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has other plans. He's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this coldhearted killer from the city's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront...all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill the masked crusader.

kimbo_slice_elite_xcI've been in a pick'em league over at S2 to I figured I post my selections here on the site during each mixed martial art event.

As much as I would like to see Kimbo get a loss it wont happen versus Shamrock. Shamrock's going to try and prove a point and stand and bang and he's going to eat fist. lol. Did anyone see the weigh in's for Gina Carano? She had to bear all to make weight!

    My predictions:
    Kimbo Slice - KO1
    Jake Shields-KO R2
    Andre Arlovski-KO R1
    Gina Carano- Sub R2
    Murilo "Ninja" Rua-KO R3
    Yoko - Sub R1
