CSI vs. Law and Order SVU

Law and Order SVUWhen the original Law and Order was released, I thought it was very uninteresting. Much of the original show focused on the prosecution of criminals in the courtroom. I know that many people loved it, and believe me I tried to as well, but it just didn’t do it for me. The original seemed to spend too much time in courtroom rather than on the field for my liking.

A couple good friends of mine started watching Law and Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) and recommended it to me when it was released in ‘99. They swore it was the best thing on TV and I had to see it. After watching the original I was very skeptical and blew the series off the entire first season. That all changed on uneventful evening and after the first two episodes I was completely hooked. I’m sure I have missed a few since I’ve started watching the series, but whats great about SVU is most of the episodes are pretty self-contained making it easy to watch at anytime without getting lost.

The series is very gritty and the characters really grab a hold of you while your trying to figure out who committed the crime. The stories are also well drawn out and more than half of them are unpredictable until the very end. Just yesterday I spent my entire day watching a marathon on USA. It was time well spent! haha.

CSI LAS VEGAS

CSI or Criminal Scene Investigation is something fairly new on my radar. I started watching this series just this past summer. At work all my colleagues are die-hard Vegas fans and they kept telling me how great the series was. I’ve just recently borrowed season one and two from the Vegas series and it has become my new addiction.

I guess after years of watching SVU I just did not want to give this series or any other criminal investigation series a chance. What a mistake! The storylines are just as compelling as SVU and the characters are just as good.

What I really liked about CSI was the CGI that helped viewers understand what exactly happened internally to the victims. It was pretty cool. I thought that was what really set the series apart from SVU. Other than that, I can’t really say which series is the better one. Both have extremely well drawn out storylines. Both have a great set of characters. I can’t really decide which one I’d rather watch. Guess its both for me! haha. Your thoughts?

If the shows play at different times, then go watch both! Nothing’s wrong with that.

I am not big in tv shows.. but when I rented Grey’s Anatomy’s first season, I got so hooked! I know the context of Grey’s show is way different than that of CSI or Law&Order, but oh well.

Have a good one!

I really like SVU, but I usually only catch it when the repeats air on cable. I’ve never really watched CSI, but I did watch CSI: Miami for about 2 seasons. I had to stop because it’s just become incredibly cheesy and unbelievable.

I like the Law & Order shows because you can pop in every now and then to catch an episode and you don’t need to know the storyline. I have enough shows already that I have to keep up with…ha.

I never got into Miami. Griss is the main reason I like Las Vegas. He’s just a bad ass. lol

Well let’s see. Kris likes CSI Miami more than the original CSI though. What I can tell you is that the criminals in CSI are entirely too predictable, but the criminals on SVU are hard to figure out (at least in my opinion). On CSI, it’s usually the second or third witness out of like 6 or 7, and it’s early in the program, within the first 5 minutes.

Man O Man! I love both CSI and Law&Order SVU. I used to watch both religiously back in Canada and I still watch it here in Ireland, but they’re re-runs for me since Ireland is a season behind on all North American TV shows, but still I love both shows and can’t wait to get back into them. I didn’t mind Law & Order so much but I wouldn’t be disappointed if I missed an episode. Another one that I like is Cold case… have you heard of it?

I love CSI! I don’t think I’ve ever watched the other one. My husband hated the original Law and Order, so we never bothered watching the other ones.
