Superman Returns (Theaters)

superman-returns-c

Christopher Reeves would be proud of this film. While I was waiting for the movie to start, I realized that Reeves had passed almost two years ago from his battle with paralysis. As a adolecent growing up in the mid 80’s and early 90’s, to many of us, Reeves was the “Man of Steel“.

I was pretty skeptic about the film when I first saw the previews. The special effects looked fantastic, but I wasnt too sure if an unknown actor could successfully take the place of Reeves on the bigscreen. I was dead wrong. Brandon Routh didnt just play the role of superman, he defined the character all over again. He had the look, the smirk, the voice, and all the right mannerisms that was portrayed by the original “Man of Steel”. He definately paid homage to Christopher Reeves, yet made the character his own.

When the opening credits started rolling and the superman theme song started playing, I could feel the little needles and the hairs line up my back. It was pure nostalgia and I was a child again.

Many critics of the film argued that the plot and character development were not detailed enough. I totally agree with them. Alot of people viewing “superman” for the very first time will not understand his entire character and the storyline if they have not watched the original 1978 film. Yet even with this films faults, I think that everyone watching it will still be able to appreciate the movie.

For those old enough to remember, Im sure it brought back many childhood memories. For those who are new to superman, this film was a fantastic way to introduce our new generation of children to a hero who stood for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Qualities that most of our society seem to have forgotten.

  2. Although I felt that “Batman Begins” is a better superhero film and that the 1978 film is superior to Superman Returns (it felt too much like a homage instead of a standalone film), I feel that the character was respected and the visuals of the story was awesome. I was expecting much more from this film (hey, it’s Bryan “GOD” Singer at the helm), but oh, well, that’s what sequels are for.

I felt that this is the closing of a trilogy (of the first 2 Superman films) of which to jumpstart a whole new film franchise.

  • The Spirit (Latest Theatrical Trailer) -#

spirit_ver10Adapted from the Will Eisner's graphic novels, "The Spirit" tells the story of a man who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has other plans. He's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this coldhearted killer from the city's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront...all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill the masked crusader.

kimbo_slice_elite_xcI've been in a pick'em league over at S2 to I figured I post my selections here on the site during each mixed martial art event.

As much as I would like to see Kimbo get a loss it wont happen versus Shamrock. Shamrock's going to try and prove a point and stand and bang and he's going to eat fist. lol. Did anyone see the weigh in's for Gina Carano? She had to bear all to make weight!

    My predictions:
    Kimbo Slice - KO1
    Jake Shields-KO R2
    Andre Arlovski-KO R1
    Gina Carano- Sub R2
    Murilo "Ninja" Rua-KO R3
    Yoko - Sub R1
