Regular WordPress Backups a Must!

wordpress-logoLet me be the first to tell you that it wasn’t easy getting this site back up and running at all. It all started with my former hosting service closing down my site due to bandwidth issues. Apparently, the site was receiving too much traffic and disrupting other sites hosted on the same server.

It got worse when my former web host screwed me over and gave me a corrupt SQL database. I asked three times and they gave me alot of run around. I tried uploading the latest database when they finally provided it to me, but in the end I had to use the backup I made for myself in mid-July. The database provided was just no good. After this experience, I was glad that I made so many backups on my own. It saved my site!

As for 7milesdown.com itself, well its lost a ton of traffic, some good posts, and some entrecard drops, but I hope everyone will show a little love and support and help me get this blog off its feet again. I have most of the files for my custom template, but I’ll mess with that over the weekend. Right now I just want to savor the fact that my site is live again.

Ignorance no longer!

gasWhen I started driving back in ’93 I recall paying about a buck nineteen for a gallon of gas. A few bucks could take me a long way and I never really worried about having enough money to fill my tank. Living on a small island, two to three dollars of fuel could actually last me a couple of days depending on my driving habits and I never concerned myself with speed, tire pressure, or distances. All that has changed over the past year.

Earlier this evening I was reading the local newspaper online and noticed that the price at the pump rose another $0.12. We are now paying $4.31 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel and about $4.44 for premium. Even with this rise in cost, it amazes me when I see people driving V8 vehicles and speeding in excess of sixty miles an hour. I guess some folks are still in denial and don’t realize that we are already in a recession.

Tyson vs. Holyfield III

14472357_2I wasn’t too sure what to make of this announcement when I first read up on it on Yahoo Sports.

Evander Holyfield claims he could meet old foe Mike Tyson for a third time despite both former undisputed world heavyweight champions being in their 40s.

Both Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are way past their prime years and this “Circus” of a fight will only tarnish their reputations as two of the most feared fighters in the history of sport.

I grew up watching the sport of boxing with my uncles starting in the late 80′s. My favorite heavyweight of all time is definitely Iron Mike. His tenacity and drive was unmatched and he just ripped through his opponents at will. He was really the sole reason I watched heavyweight bouts period. Growing up guys such as Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Lenard, and Roberto Duran were the headlines of most big boxing events, but with the arrival of Iron Mike, things took a turn or the better in the heavyweight division.
