JarHead (Theater)
The lines for Harry Potter were ridiculous yesterday afternoon so we stepped aside and bought tickets for JarHead. My wife and I had planned to watch the midnight showing for HP4, but after weighing out work and play, we decided it would be better to cancel Potter Mania out. Im glad we did. I heard that the midnight showing was so crowded that the theaters had to turn many away. Can you imagine waiting in line for hours only to be turned away? Anyway, thats another story. Back to Jarhead.
Lets cut to the chase. War is hell. It changes a man forever. Whats worse than war however, is the wait before the actual combat. The mental preperation. Jarhead’s storyline is based on the autobiography written by Gulf War veteran Anthony Swofford. Its as real as it gets. The film will suck you into the life of a marine in the Gulf. You will train with them, fight with them, sleep with them, and shit with them.
Jarhead is not action packed. This film was not created for that purpose. Its true to life. It digs deep into the mind of a soldier. It tells it like it is. For those looking for blood and glory, find yourself another film, this movie is not for you.
Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows “Swoff” (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper’s rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don’t understand against an enemy they can’t see for a cause they don’t fully fathom… Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heads up Swofford’s scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff’s friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit.
Christmas Gifts
What are you buying your loved one’s for christmas? I think this year we have to cut our Christmas lists down to just family, very close friends, and our godchildren. Its getting too expensive to buy gifts for everyone and I refuse to take out a holiday loan. I think holiday loans are probrably the worst thing you could do. Its just spending more money you dont have.
I did spoil myself this holiday season by purchasing a ’93 Toyota 4×4. I’m pretty stoked. Its lifted and everything. I’ve always wanted a big truck and now I own one. I think everyone who lives on Guam needs a good truck around. The Truck is in great condition and I’ll be sure to post photos when I can take them. I now own 3 vehicles. The two door Scion tC, 4 door Scion xA, and the ’93 Truck. All I need now is a cafe bike. Got to convince the wifey to get one!
In other news the album has been put on hold indefinately. Mike is leaving for a couple months to escort his grandfather from Michigan to Puerto Rico, so Im not sure when we can get back to work in the studio. However, I feel like posting a few demo’s up for everyone to hear. They will be online shortly.
