Travel : Bite (Las Vegas)

During our vacation this past summer, my wife and I watched several shows and tried to soak in as much of the Vegas nightlife as possible during our week stay there. After watching the Blue Man Group (which we loved), we decided to check out some of the more provocative shows Vegas had to offer.

Bite, which is exclusive to the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino, featured topless dancers who performed to a mix of 70′s, 80′s, and 90′s rock ballads. It sounded very enticing and at just $50.00 a ticket, it was one of the cheaper shows Vegas had to offer. Although a bit out of the way from all the major hotels on the strip, I found the show enjoyable and affordable as well. Here is a short synopsis on the show and video preview:

BITE is an erotic and sensual topless revue based on deliciously evil vampires with a simple story line of sin, sex and seduction. The show centers around the Lord Vampire and his search for the perfect female specimen that he will seduce and make the queen of the night. Aiding the Lord is his coven of sultry and nimble dancers, the Erotic Angels of Rock. Their story will be told through the classic rock songs of the 1970′s, 1980′s and 1990′s. Throughout the show, audience members will be chosen to become part of the erotic adventure.

If your ever in Vegas and are on a budget, this might work out for you. Of course I would highly recommend that you checkout out the Cirque Du Soleil shows and Blue Man Group if you can afford to. Just keep this in mind when making your decision on what show to watch next: Half naked women with sharp teeth who are growling at you are always a plus at anytime of the year.

Travel : Craigdarroch Castle (Victoria, Canada)

DSC00061A 10 minutes drive from the Inner Harbour, Craigdarroch Castle is one of Victoria Canada’s most legendary landmarks. This Victorian style mansion rises four and a half stories tall, contains most of its original furnishings from the 1890′s, and has some of the most beautiful stained-glass windows and woodwork I have personally seen.

There are two main ways to get there. If you decide to walk, you can go straight to the entrance of the landmark without any problems. However, if you are bussed (what we did), you’ll be dropped a couple blocks away and have to walk the rest of the distance to the entrance. For some reason, buses are restricted from driving through the neighborhood in which the castle is located.

The tour through the castle itself is self guided and took us approximately an hour to complete. Before entering the castle please be aware that all food, drinks, and gum must be thrown away and that they will require you to clean your shoes with a special machine before entering the structure. Once inside, the hosts at the entrance will provide a map to assist you through the many rooms and floors, and you’ll be required to travel about four flights of steps to see everything.

Overall, this is one of those places you’d probably visit once just to say that you’ve been there. Walking through hallways was definitely a very surreal experience. I would suggest however that you leave young children with someone else if you decide to take this tour. There are many stairs which may lead to accidents as well as furnishings that should be handled with care that young children might get their hands on.

Travel : Venetian’s Spa and Gym (Las Vegas)

sindlinger's photostream - GymI’ve been bodybuilding for several years now, and I’ve always trained at gyms which were basic in accommodations. As long as the equipment was in good condition I had little complaint about air conditioning or cleanliness. I’m actually one of those guys who enjoy the pain and sweat from a good workout. Talk about a shocker when I arrived in Vegas. I had a friend who worked at the Venetian Hotel and Casino and she hooked me up with some Gym and Spa passes while I was there (normally $80.00 for 3 days). I must say it was a very unique experience for me.

The Venetian’s Gym was the cleanest and most high tech gym I’ve ever been to. At most other gyms I’ve trained at, the equipment consisted of primarily a few machines, some treadmills, and decent section of free weights. Definitely enough for me to get by, but nothing out of the ordinary. The Venetian’s equipment trumped them all. They boasted a ton of free weights, new Hammer Strength machines from Life Fitness, a huge selection of stability balls, free bottled water, indoor rock climbing, and treadmills with their own lcd and heart rate monitors. I was pretty much in awe. Needless to say, my workouts were decent but not exactly exhausting. The great air conditioning made it much harder to sweat and large variety of equipment made me spend more time looking than actually training. It didn’t help either when a group of girls would walk through the gym wearing nothing but G-strings and tiny tops. I guess thats Vegas for you!
