Journey to the Center of the Earth (Theaters)

journey_to_the_center_of_the_earth_3d_ver3As much as I love the Mummy films and enjoy Brendan Fraser’s one liners, I must say that Journey to the Center of the Earth was the worst summer movie I’ve seen so far this year. The pacing was very spotty, the acting was terrible, and story overall was just plain and uneventful.

I was told however that the 3D format was outstanding and made this film far more entertaining than its 2D release, but unfortunately for me, our theaters were without a 3D projector. After finishing the screening, I had really wished I followed my instincts and skipped this film completely at the box office. Its definitely not worth watching without all the 3D effects. I highly recommend that you to skip this film altogether if your local theaters do not provide a 3D screening. I was fortunate enough to watch the first showing of the day ($4.25 a ticket) and by the end of the film, I still felt I was ripped off. Lets just hope this doesn’t ruin my expectations for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Hancock (Theaters)

hancockWill Smith has always been one of my favorite actors to watch on the bigscreen. Since his appearance as Mike Lowrey in Bad Boys back in ’95, I have loyally watched every film he has appeared in. Unfortunately, Smith chose the wrong film to star in this year. During a summer where blockbuster superhero films have dominated the box office, Hancock completely fumbled and flopped.

The premise of the storyline was a really promising one. Something out of the box and different from the rest. However, with such poor execution and a lack of an antagonist for that true superhero experience, this film was just not very good.

I thought Smith did his best to make the film as entertaining as possible, but even with his charm and genuine humor, he could not save it from mediocracy. I would rank Hancock right there beside Wild Wild West. One of Smith’s missteps throughout his otherwise phenomenal career.

AVPR: Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem (DVD)

aliens_vs_predator_requiem_ver4What the hell happened to these two awesome franchises? Aliens was such a great film when it first debuted back in the mid-nineteen eighties. It was one of those horror flicks that put you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Predator was a great film as well. One of the best Arnold Schwarzenegger movies ever.

As for this latest spinoff? Aliens vs. Predator Requiem was just horrible. No character development, no plot, no suspense, no drama, no action, no chicks, no… You get the picture? Nothing in this film is worth watching. I’d easily rate this film a one which is the worst of my ratings, but I feel so horrible doing so because I was such a huge fanboy of both these two franchises growing up as a child.

My recommendation? Dont waste your time with this film. Its total garbage. I think Paki Punu’s Dragonwars might be just a tad better than this one.
