The Seeker (DVD)

seeker_the_dark_is_rising_ver2The Seeker was just horrible. It felt like a watered down version of Harry Potter that was rushed and unpolished.

I’m really not sure what the producers of this film were thinking when they wrote the script for the movie, but the storyline was horrendous, the dialogue corny and forgettable, and the script was so fragmented and rushed, it felt like I was fast forwarding my DVD player and missing essential elements of the movie.

This film is not even worth a rental in my honest opinion. Maybe a group of young children might find some enjoyment from this film, but anyone who has watched Harry Potter or Chronicles of Narnia will probably feel that this film was a total ripoff of the former films mentioned without the great story and special effects.

Avoid this movie at all costs.

Daddy Day Camp (DVD)

daddy_day_campAfter watching his Oscar Award winning performance in Jerry McGuire and praising him for his role in “Radio” and “What Dreams may Come“, it was really hard to imagine the idea of Cuba Gooding Jr. starring in anything as corny and drab as Daddy Day Camp.

I’ll spell it out for you. The film was absolutely H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. Director Fred Savage either needs to retire from film making or take some lessons from the pros because he obviously lacks the vision of a good director. The film billed as family entertainment was incredibly slow. The storyline was boring, weak, and predictable. Cuba attempted to save the movie with some funny faces and corny jokes, but nothing in his arsenal could save this movie from disaster.

Typically I would have at least something decent to say in every review, but this film takes the cake. I had thought Dragon Wars was bad. This one was ten times worse and without any cool CGI. I suggest you avoid it at all costs.

Miami Vice (DVD)

miami_vice_ver7 This film was a huge disappointment for me. I was never a big fan of the Miami Vice television series, but I had expected a far better movie from Michael Mann. Anyone remember The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, and Collateral? All great Mann films.

This film however was totally the opposite of those film’s I previously mentioned. There was no character development, hardly any action sequences worth noting, and it dragged in so many areas it practically put me to sleep on the couch. I have always enjoyed good action movies, even B-rated ones, but this one was just terrible. I can’t believe that with a cast of Colin Farrel and Jaime Foxx, this film ended up this bad.

If your a huge fan of the Miami Vice television series, I would recommend that you skip this film altogether. I think you’ll come out more disappointed than I was. Save your five bucks for a happy meal at McDonald’s. The toys included with your meal will entertain you far more than this film. It is a serious waste of two hours of your life.

Ricardo Tubbs is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born Intel analyst Trudy, as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett is charismatic and flirtatious until – while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group – he gets romantically entangled with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The best undercover identity is oneself with the volume turned up and restraint unplugged. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one – especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves.
