Fearless (DVD)

Based on a true story, this film has to be Jet Li’s finest martial arts movie. It was touted as his final martial arts epic prior to its release in theaters, and Li certainly did not disappoint me. I thought that it contained all the right elements to become an instant classic in the Chinese martial arts genre.

Fearless left a lasting impression in my mind hours after the credits rolled. It was an extremely powerful movie that was comprised of great action sequences, breathtaking cinematography, flawless acting, and a very strong message. This is easily the best martial arts movie I’ve watched in years.

Fearless is a masterpiece in my eyes and a must have for any fan of Jet Li and/or martial arts films. If your looking for inspiration, you’ve hit the jackpot with this one.

Based on a true story, Jet Li’s ‘Fearless’ tells the life of legendary martial arts master Huo Yuanjia.

Deeply humiliated by his father’s death in a public duel, a young Huo resolves to become the best fighter he can be. But soon his incredible fighting skills cost him the lives of the people he loves most when his family are killed in a brutal revenge attack. Yuanjia flees, no longer caring whether he lives or dies. Just as he is ready to give up hope, he is saved by Granny Sun and her blind granddaughter who accept him into the idyllic village where they live. t. What happened that day in 1910 has never been, and will never be, forgotten in China.

Apocalypto (Theaters)

apocalypto Apocalypto delivers an adrenaline pumping rush from the opening sequence to the closing credits. I was very impressed with this film, and it really solidified Mel Gibson as one of the best directors of his generation.

The movie was very well paced and I was on the edge of my seat most of the film. The storyline was simple yet satisfying, and the actors played their roles flawlessly. Some who watched this film have mentioned that the film contained excessive violence and gore. I personally felt that the images and violence when put into context of the film was appropriate. The drama, hardship, and pain felt by these people would not have been felt by the audience if many of the violent scenes were edited or deleted.

I would easily vote Apocolypto as the best movie of 2006. I really can’t see another film topping this one. The movie however is very gory and violent so I would highly recommend leaving any children under the age of 14 at home. I would also advise that you skip this film if you have a weak stomach or dislike violence amongst women and children. The movie portrays the realities and hardships of life back in the dark ages. Ruthless and Unrelenting.

As the Maya kingdom faces its decline, the rulers insist the key to prosperity is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices. Jaguar Paw, a young man chosen for sacrifice, flees the kingdom to avoid his fate.

Cars (DVD)

cars.sized The first voice I recognized was Mater’s (the tow truck) voice. *nudging my wife* “Baby, ain’t that the dude from the Blue Collar Comedy Show?” haha. Last night I could not remember his name, but this morning I found out it was the voice of Larry the Cable Guy.

I thought this movie was excellent. Although it was two hours long, it didn’t seem that way at all while viewing it. Visually, the movie is superb. Its actually one of the best I’ve seen using CGI. I’ve never been a very big fan of CGI based films because I’ve always prefered two dimensional drawn movies. I guess Im old school. This movie however was done so well, that I can honestly say I could not imagine it done in the 2-D format.

The story itself also tugs at the heart. It is a fairly predictable movie, but it was done so well that it really doesn’t matter. You’ll appreciate the message of friendship, loyalty, and love that this film clearly conveys to its audience. This is definately a great film to add to your animated movie collection. Pick it up.
