Rich Dad Poor Dad

rich dad poor dadI have always been very ambitious when it came to money. I’ve done MLM’s, direct marketing, and even tried a hand in traditional business. All these experiences have really built a foundation for my financial education. Through basically a trial and error process, I’ve lost big and earned big as well.

I feel that the key to financial success and freedom is to diversify, educate yourself, and keep up with the trends. There is so much money to be made out there, it is just a matter of finding the right outlets and strategies.

In the past years I’ve always risked spending for big rewards. Its part of the money game. No one gets rich without risk involved. After I married, my goals had changed and I lost sight of the bigger picture. Its not that I made the wrong decision (I love my wife), but I was just bumped off track with a different set of priorities.

This book, Rich Dad Poor Dad really helped me get back on track with my goal of attaining financial freedom. Reading this book helped rejuvenate my ambitions. I really do want to become my personal success story.

I want you to keep in mind that this book itself it not going to make you rich or provide you with comprehensive strategies to make money. It does however, provide you an oppotunity to think “Outside the Box”.

Some critics have complained that this book is too simplified and it’s more of an inspirational book than a financial book. You know what I say about that? Who makes the biggest bucks? Its those who are inspired by some outside force. Its someone who thinks outside the box. Its someone who starts with a “SIMPLE” idea and puts it into action.

This book is meant as a tool. A starting point to change your views about money and finance. If your tired of working just to survive, this book is for you. Dont listen to others who are not successful. They are always the ones telling you to think inside the box. Listen to a real millionare perspective. Read the Book. I highly recommend it.

Memoirs of a Geisha

geishaTitle: Memoirs of a Geisha
Author: Arthur Golden

Paperback: 448 pages

When I first heard about this book, I did not care to pick it up to read. Matter a fact, I never expected to read it. I guess I was hesitant to waste my time on a so called “Woman’s Novel”. Im glad my wife asked for “QT” (quality time) and we watched the movie last weekend. The storyline caught my interest, and I decided to read the book despite the “Woman’s Novel” label.

I must admit that I was extremely impressed with it. This work of literature is an instant classic. A true masterpiece. After reading the book, I completely understood why the critics were so hard on the motion picture. They were right on the money when they said that the movie did not do the book much justice. The book was 100 times better than the film. I just felt that the film left out so many important elements that made the book a bestseller.

The story itself was not just captivating, it was inspirational. It portrayed the struggle of a young child, sold into slavery to become one of Japan’s most well respected and revered geishas. I do want you to know that the story was not flawless. I was pretty disappointed with the ending. However, dont let that stop you from reading this book. It still gets a strong 4/5 rating from me. Its worth the time.

Book Synopsis:

Set in a mysterious and exotic world which still casts a potent spell today, the story begins in the years before World War II, when a Japanese child is torn from her penniless family to work as a servant in a geisha house. Despite a treacherous rival who nearly breaks her spirit, the girl blossoms into the legendary geisha Sayuri. Beautiful and accomplished, Sayuri captivates the most powerful men of her day, but is haunted by her secret love for the one man (Ken Watanabe) who is out of her reach.

A Feast for Crows

FeastforCrowsTitle: A Feast for Crows
Series: A Song of Ice and Fire
Author: George R. R. Martin
Publisher: Spectra (November 8, 2005)
Hardcover: 784 pages
ISBN: 0553801503

I have officially caught up with the entire Song of Ice and Fire series as of today. This is a good thing in one way, and not so good in another. I’ll start with the bad first. I hate waiting for the next book to come. It happened with the Wheel of Time and now it will happen with this series. Since I just started reading this saga October of last year, it was easy for me just to fly through all the books one after the next. I didnt have to wait a few years for the next installment to be published. It was all accessible. Now I have to wait like everyone else for book five, A Dance of Dragons. Im pretty sure I will have to ask to borrow all the books again so that I can refresh my memory just before the book is released. (Kalani, did you get that? haha)

The good news is that I’ve been reading like a madman again. I took a break from reading and I really feel that books really stimulate the mind much better than my computer or television. So, the past couple months its been non-stop. Now I just have to figure out what I need to read next to pass the time.

On with the review. This book was actually kinda slow compared to the rest of the series, hence my four star rating. Im not saying it was bad, (Its far better than half the fantasy novels I have read) but after reading the Storm of Swords, expectations were very high. The book focused on Kings Landing and the Trident so it left out many of my favorite characters. A Dance of Dragons will re-introduced many of my favorite characters like Jon Snow and Bran Stark. This was the main reason why it took me a bit longer to read. A Feast for Crows did provide alot of forshadowing as to what was going to happen next, so Im highly anticipating the release of book five.

Current Favorite Characters: Jaime Lannister
