I’m pretty confused about the results of the simulation between the Yakuza versus the Sicilian Mafia. Besides the raw power of the sawed off shotgun (at close range not midrange btw) I really can’t see how the Mafia had any advantage at all. Skillset wise the Yakuza trumped the the Mafia in every way. They were more disciplined, were trained in mixed martial arts, and were very precise and discrete. As the show progressed however, it was clear to see that the edge went to those weapons with pure power and overall destruction. They didn’t take into consideration the skill of the opponent or their accuracy.
What irked me the most was the ending of the simulation. How does a Mafia brawler kill the last remaining Yakuza gangster with a ice pick! Now come on! Two Japanese Sai’s versus and ice pick with the ice pick winning? In one on one combat, Yakuza wins hands down. There is no damn way a Yakuza gangster goes down to an ice pick when he has TWO weapons made specifically for disarming an opponent.
The more obvious fault on this episode was the use of the nun chucks against the bat. Why not the Katana versus the bat? We saw that Katana drawn so many times on the show yet it was never used? The katana would have cut right through any bat in close quarters and if a katana came anywhere near the dummy head it was coming off! Yes, the bat crushed the skull, but the katana would have went through the bat and right through the persons neck at the same time!
They seriously need to modify the simulations! The Yakuza should have won this matchup hands down. What did you think?

fu*king stupid they put up against a fu*king shotgun against a pistol im wondering if they’re bias they should have put a japanese trench gun up against that piece of sh*t double barrel these match ups are fu*ked up
You do not realize that martial arts really doesnt do shit. Ice picks were handled like knives and knife fighting is more skilled than a sai. Plus the sai is big and easy to keep your eye on a sai it is really hard to keep you eyes on a black pick that is small and moves quicker.plus The katana wasnt used because the katana wasnt concealable and the yakuza are all about concealability. Also swords arent meant to cut wood. wood is thicker than bone. I have seen a katana hit a wood board and it wasnt even able to get halfway through. So get your facts straight the mafia winning was good even if they didnt have the shotgun they would have the colt .45 which is accurate and a bigger bullet. Also mafia were trained as well. Not in martial arts but in marksmanship. A mafia man would go into the woods and practice shooting because they new their gun would be a life and death matter. Plus a smg wasnt meant to be accurate that goes to a rifle. A smg is supposed to release as much lead as possible to take down multiple opponents.
There are concealable katana blades. I’ve seen it. Sai’s are definitely not easy to keep an eye on especially if the opponent has two of them. Martial Arts doesn’t mean sh*t? You must be from another planet. Why do people train for martial arts then? To look pretty???
Really Do you think that the martial artists are going to be able to think of how to do all those moves while fighting? Very few are able to do the whole dont think react thing in a fight. So yeah martial arts half the time are meant for distraction. And yes Im from a different planet. Im from the planet thats not filled with retards. Also how in the world are the yakuza gonna get concealed katanas in the 40′s?
Martial Artists dont THINK of moves when they fight. Movements are fluid and become instinctual after years and years of practice. Thats why they practice! What are you talking about? Martial Artists have to think to FIGHT? Are you kidding me? Concealed Katana’s have been around for centuries! Look it up!
Katana’s, ice picks, martial arts… None of these would even matter because the majority of the fight would be held at a semi-long distance in an urban environment. With this in mind, the superior firing power, rate, and capacity of the tommy gun give the mafia an upper hand.
Lmao. First off if the yakuza were only about concealing their weapons why would they even use a submachine gun? Second, the yakuza actually did use swords and not just for ceremonial purposes, they were trained as samurai did to use the sword as a weapon (omg!). Third you obviously do not know anything about martial arts. The sai is a very effective tool which can disarm an opponent, and many experienced martial artists can disarm something like a knife or an icepick even WITHOUT a weapon at all. Then it comes down to no martial arts training vs. martial arts training. Seeing as you have probably had non, go beat up a blue belt in a martial art like brazilian jujitsu (roots from india and then japan) and then I will listen to what you have to say.
Next one I voted for Spetsnaz. When it comes to firearms, there is only so much difference. I think the game breaker will be the knife fighting.
lol @ David. The ninja had concealed katana and they were around way before the 40s! Just about every martial artist I know has been able to use their techniques in an actual fight. The difference bewteen someone who is trained vs. someone who is untrained could mean life or death.

I’m glad someone else said something. haha. I couldn’t believe he said martial arts is null and void in a fight. LOL…
Once again the training & discipline of the individual wasn’t taken into account. I agree that the Yakuza got screwed. It seems as if popularity and reputation plays into this one. The imcomparable Mafia couldn’t lose. I chose this one correctly, but I thought it was going have more of a realistic twist to it. Mob ties and manpower is how the Mafia should have won. Not a fight. As for the individual, the Mafia gangsters are businessmen doing criminal things. But the Yakuza gangsters are trained killers that dabble in businenss. There’s a big difference.
This week seems to focus on training…at least thats what they are hinting at in the previews. I think they should test it out by having them spar- either hand to hand or with rubber knives or whatever. Training is definitely something that needs to be considered in the mix and they should come up with a way to at least attempt to simulate it.

Alright listen jabroni’s I do MMA/BJJ/MUAY THAI/And Im a wrestler. And the yakusa used none of that. They used some goofy karate shit that wouldent work not flexible enough…. only kempo works. Also the mafia had better technology. I HATE SORE LOSERS. Get over it. Biased? Come on now. Keep bitching and moaning.
ONLY THING I agree with you all on is that a martial artist will always beat a street fighter in a 1 on 1 fight.
99% of all battles would be the Sten against the Tommy gun with the latter having a faster firing rate, more than 3 times the number of bullets in the magazine, and a larger caliber bullet… ’nuff said.
Mafia wins.
martial arts dont mean jack at 30 ft away.its simple the better with firearms it the winner.its not the samuri vs. mafia its the yakuza vs. mafia.just because a person plays with a sword now and then doesnt make them a master like a samuri was. where is someone going to put a 30 inch blade when there walking down the road in a suit anyway.if they got close during the fight they would have 10 bullet holes in them standing would be a hard thing to do you can forget martial arts.
My reply to you is simple. They should not have shown so much hand to hand combat in the show then. Most of the fighting was not 30 feet away. If it was, it should have been a draw. Both gangs had an equally deadly set of guns to use in their arsenal.
My reply to you is simpler. It is an hour TV show so what else are they going to show you? The hand to hand combat is entertainment only. The bigger faster gun wins no matter how much Bruce Lee crap you know. If not, then they would have sent thousands of karate experts up the beaches of Normandy and not armed soldiers.
Its called Deadliest Warrior. Not Deadliest team. Thats my gripe about the entire show. It really should be one on one. Who is teh deadliest “WARRIOR”. They should have shown the battle with two oppositions shooting at each other. Not fighting with picks and knives. In close quarter combat, martial arts wins hands down.
Too true Trench. Skill and training also play a huge part. If you have a bad ass weapon that you can’t skillfully utilize then what good is it? Not to mention that not all combatants use guns or modern weapons. In close quarters, martial arts is the ultimate equalizer. Everyone discounting martial arts as not being valid obviously hasn’t had much experience with martial arts.
I have a black belt in Kyokushin Karate and it means squat when someone is shooting at me with a machine gun. The machine gun was invented to spray bullets so a soldier with very little skill could effectively kill in great numbers. There is no skill required for a machine gunner, unlike a sniper, other than spraying bullets in the general direction of the foe. As for martial arts being an equalizer, it means shit when you fight a good street fighter used to fighting with no rules. I know as I do/did both for many many years.
The deadliest warrior focuses on all aspects of fighting. Close, midrange, and distance. I think that Yakuza and Mafia matched up well distance wise and mid range with their array of guns, but close distance, I DONT CARE WHAT anyone says. An ICEPICK does not BEAT a SAI. And in 1000 tries, MARTIAL ARTS beats STREET THUG FIGHTING my a landslide.
Don’t be an idiot. Street fighting is far more dangerous (i.e. NO rules) than martial arts (training WITH rules). Ask Van Damme who got his ass kicked in a bar fight.
We obviously know YAKUZA and MAFIA didn’t use any RULES for fighting, so whats that have to do anything. But if your a training fighter, you’ll have the upper hand regardless. Especially if you use your training on the street which im sure the YAKUZA do. Come on guy. Where do you come off calling people idiots in a argument. You obviously dont like hearing anothers opinion. LOL @ VanDamme. He aint no real martial artist. Why don’t you try BRUCE LEE.. instead. I bet he’d woop ass in a bar fight.
Skill actually means alot and it was demonstrated in the Green Beret vs. Spetnaz when they had to run the obstacle course and shoot the dummies. The Spetznaz guy scored all killshots while someo f the Green Beret’s shots just glanced the target. A skilled machine gun user has a distinct advantage over a non skilled user any day.
As for martial arts not being an equalizer, I think it all depends on the art. I train MMA and pretty much everything I’ve learned I can/have used in the streets. Rules or no rules, strikes are strikes. If you’ve been trained to counter. block, and dodge then you should be prepared for pretty much everything someone can throw at you, unless of course they are way more skilled than you are.
I love how everyone does “some MMA” and translates it into being Chuck Liddell. Amazing naivety. Gun wins hand down.
Not naivety, just basic reading skills. I never said MMA training could beat a gun. I said someone who is trained in martial arts or some fighting style has a distinct close quarters unarmed combat advantage over someone who does not. That is all. I never implied I was Chuck Liddell. Seeing as how you claim to be a black belt and been in fights for years, you should understand this. Your street fighter comparison is moot. If someone is an experienced street fighter then that my friend is a form of training. Maybe not traditional training but it is still experience that can be used to their benefit. If their experience level on the streets is greater than your experience buying your belts at the local dojo, then so be it.Like you said- in a street fight there are no rules. Maybe you were at a disadvantage because you were going for points and waiting for the ref to save you while the other guy wrecked your ass. Beleieve it or not- the no rules factor also applies to the martial artist so that can be used to his advantage also.
What the fu*k are they doing with a british weapon anyway? It would be more accurate to have given them something Russian or Chinese, or perhaps leftover Japanese ww2 guns than a Sten. They don’t even use that shit in movies. If they were going to use something American, then guess what, it would’ve been tommygun vs tommygun, with the Yakuza having the more recent variant, as they were all about concealability. They would have used the stick-loaded special forces one, not the drum-magazine like the mafia. I have never never NEVER heard of anybody in Japan even utilizing a Sten. It. Is. Just. Not. Possible.
The sai was also an odd choice, maybe it might show up with an ‘elite bodyguard’ who wanted to stand out, but in reality, up close and personal, the Yakuza favor the same basic switchblade any normal street punk uses since they can hide it anywhere, they would just have a bit more of an idea of what to do with it. (Hint: Not pick their teeth, as I’ve seen my fair share of Guatemalans here do.)
I agree yakuza got raw deal, show is biased, and popularity- based on who is well-known and who has greater wanton firepower.
Which is stupid because why even bother having them fight close quarters????? how the hell is an UNTRAINED joe smoe off the street with an ice pick beat a trained killing machine with TWO BIGASS SAIS!?!?!?!?!?
the programmer is a fucking idiot!!!!!!!! He know shit about martial arts or SKILL and idk how the hell he even factors that in when having the final fight being CLOSE COMBAT then having some UNTRAINED joe smoe kill a TRAINED KILLING MACHINE in hand-2-had with an ice pick!?!?!?!
Show is biased, programmer is fucking idiot!
Being able to throw a punch doesn’t make you a good fighter, a baby can hit somebody!
What makes a good fighter is weeks, months, years, decades of hard training, yakuza had that!
of course a shotgun will kill pistol shooter, unless the pistol shooter is trained, has quicker reflexes & reaction time(to see threat and the draw faster),and better accuracy(to aim for kill).
That being said, a yakuza with a hand gun would see the shotgun and pull/fire a deadly shot before the shotgun mob man could even get a shot off!
If you compare today’s Mafia and today’s Yakuza. The average Mafia gang member would be too busy ratting each other out or running away as soon as a fight broke out. While a Yakuza member will cut off his own finger or disembowel himself at his bosses command. I would have to guess that the producers of the show where more afraid of the American based mafia then an organized crime syndicate from another country.
