Entrecard Explosion?
The Site — By trench on November 15, 2008 at 7:01 pm | 19 VisitorsYesterday I decided to start using all my credits instead of just letting them sit on my dashboard wasting away. So I went into campaign mode and bought up about 300 ads ranging from 128 ec to 8 ec’s. I woke up this morning to approve comments and drop a few cards and noticed I had twelve advertisements waiting for approval. These ads purchased pushed my blog from a measly 128 credits for advertisement to a whopping 3072 credits overnight! Prior to this my blog would fluctuate between 64 to 512 credits but never any higher.
I’m not sure if its such a good thing to cost so much to advertise on my site. I mean, who in their right mind would spend 3072 credits on a single blog unless it guaranteed you some legitimate traffic right? I send decent traffic to others, but I don’t feel that my blog should cost this much. I just wont be able to reciprocate the traffic back to the buyer.
What are your thoughts about the pricing system? It seems to be flawed in some way. I can’t pinpoint the faults at this point, but shouldn’t the site cost be based on actual traffic rather than how many ads are in que?
BTW, Im sure the costs of advertisement for the site will go back down to the norm of 64 to 512 credits in a couple of days. ;)

The people who want to advertise need to monitor the traffic they received from their previous advertisements before they pay such huge EC credits.

@Arun – It would be nice if this was automated for us.
The system blows. That is why some people have stopped using it but some of the traffic is good.

@Film – I met alot of people (including yourself) through entrecard. I do agree the system needs to be revamped.
“I met alot of people (including yourself) through entrecard.”
That is why I have continued to use it. It has its benefits.

Just before they changed the pricing again my blog was up in the 1,000s all the time and I didn’t like it. I didn’t like taking that much from my frequent advertisers. I have no idea how many clicks people get when they advertise on my blog but I’ve always been lucky to have at least 7 blogs advertising on me at any given time.
I don’t much care whether its worth it or not anymore… I’ve found many wonderful blogs/people through EC. And slowly, I learn of new ones but I’m slowing down in dropping cards and finding new blogs.
fragilehearts last blog post..Flickr Friday: With each cough, my heart breaks just a little
@fragileheart – yep, I only drop 50 or so cards a day. I’d rather spend time building relationships than just simply dropping cards down.
Having said abt the credit system, the good thing abt is you get meet some good readers! As pointed by Film-book!
Aruns last blog post..Best Free Disk Defragmenter
@Arun – I agree with filmbook 100%. Actually I drop less than 50 cards a day now. I spend more time on people’s blogs comments and building relationships than simply reciprocal dropping which does little for my site.
Entrecard’s ad pricing system is flawed. That’s one thing that caused a lot of bloggers I know to drop Entrecard and remove it from their blogs. I keep it just for the traffic and am even contemplating on removing it too.
Like what you mentioned, I’d rather spend time visiting other blogs, leaving comments and create relationships rather than waste time dropping cards.

@Jaypee – I leave it simply because of my small network of friends I’ve met through it. I would probably have removed it if not for them.
I tend not to worry about how EntreCard runs their site, their pricing or credit mechanisms. They are flawed, but they do bring me some good traffic, as well as lead me to some good websites.
I still have a big bank of EC credits, which I try to use regularly. I do drop around 300 cards a day and often get more than that in return, so I have a fair amount to spend on ads.
My basic rule of thumb is to look at the popularity to price ratio. If the popularity is under 3 times the price, then I probably won’t advertise. Ideally, I try to find ads that the popularity is at least 5 times the price.

@Aldon @ Orient Lodge -Thanks for the tip!
@trench – I’m getting a small amount of traffic coz of it so I’m keeping it for now. If it doesn’t serve its purpose anymore, then i’ll ditch it. :)

Btw, I wanted to buy an Entrecard advert here but your blog’s ad price is 1024 credits. LOL :D
Jaypees last blog post..WP Theme Review: Blak Magik
@Jaypee – id wait until its at least half of that. People have been purchasing the ad at that price though, so I’ve just been returning the favor! haha
wow, that was huge entrecard campaign…

Popcorns last blog post..Hannah Montana The Movie
@Popcorn – First time I did that. Normally I just try and reciprocate to others who have decent prices. But I decided to let loose a little. haha
I try to do what Aldon does. As for the price of my own site, I can’t afford me! I wish I could set my price because some of my regular readers mention in my comments that they’d like to buy an ad, but can’t afford me. Also, I never know how much traffic buying an ad on my blog gets for people. Is there a way to find that out short of asking my advertisers? I’d like to know if my price is worth it.
Kathys last blog post..A Weekend What’s That and Comment #23
@Kathy – I would like to know as well if my asking price is worth it.
I personally think that the EC is not consistent but you know guys, it gives me traffic. So yes, I will use it forever. :)

@Snow – yes, it give decent traffic so I’ve continued to use it as well.
I don’t drop as many cards as I used to. I found some great blogs through EC. I have been trying to decide if I’m going to stick with it. It’s up for now.
