Lesnar slaps other heavyweight’s in the FACE!
Its finally official. On November 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Randy “The Natural” Couture will make his return debut in the octagon against former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.
Personally I think this matchup is a slap in the face to other heavyweights in the division. Yes I realize that Brock has beaten Heath Herring via decision. Kudos to him. But has everyone forgotten his loss to Frank Mir in the first round via submission? Mir was clearly the better fighter in that bout and that was proved after he applied the kneebar to a “rookie” in MMA.
Although I agree that Brock stacks up well against most of the heavyweights in the UFC, I still think that he should fight a few more contenders before he is given a shot at the title. What about Mir? Nogueira? Werdum? Gonzaga? Are these fighters not worthy opponents for him?
Yet, it’s hard to argue against this card when considering the profit margin this fight will undoubtedly rake in come November. Mixed Martial Arts fans as well as wrestling fans will be sure to tune into this event billed as the biggest MMA fight ever. Even Dana White himself admits it:
“Couture vs. Lesnar will be the biggest fight in UFC history,” Dana White said. “The thing is going to do over a million pay per view buys.”
I still think a Fedor vs. Couture fight in November would do much better. Don’t you?
The problem I have with Lesnar is his attitude problem. The guy is far from humble. Maybe he gets it from being in the WWE for so long, but this ain’t wrestling anymore buddy, its MMA. This is what Brock had to say about former Pride champ Fedor Emelianenko.
“I hear all this talk about Fedor. Who gives a (expletive) about Fedor,” Lesnar said. “His (Couture) number 1 concern should be fighting Brock Lesnar. I’m sick and tired of hearing about Fedor. Fedor isn’t (expletive).“
It didn’t help his public relations after all the trash talk he made after beating Herring either. It actually made me an official Brock Lesnar hater.
With all bias aside, I think Brock will have his hands full against Randy Couture. Brock’s obvious advantage is his youth, strength, and wrestling. However, Randy has proved time and time again that he still has the tools to compete in the UFC against bigger opponents and he does have loads more experience than Brock does. Since this will be a five round title fight, I think Couture still has the advantage. You can bet in the later rounds that Randy will be throwing down some nice elbows on Brock’s over sized tired face. Brock’s only shot at a win is in the early rounds of the fight. If he can’t finish Couture in the first two rounds (I don’t think he can), Couture will be sure to capitalize and win via decision or submission.

Agreed. It’s all about the money. And I like Brock’s future in the sport, but he needs to learn some humility and show some class. I have a feeling that one day someone will have him in a submission hold and they’ll hold onto it as long as they can even after tapping out because he’s rubbing everyone the wrong way. I understand he was a heel in the WWE but it seems to have infiltrated his real personality.

@ndo - He’s a dickhead. I hate him and what he stands for in the sport. I hope Randy musters up enough strength to beat the daylights out of Brock.

It’s only a commercial stunt. Exactly like ELiteXc with Kimbo Slice…. Couture is coming of retirement, he’s not champion anymore in my book. Lesnar had only 3 fights and he’s 2-1 in MMA so he can’t pretend for a title fight. This fight is a joke.
It’s an insult to Nogueira and Mir. The UFC heavyweight division sucks. Fedor is the best!!!
