The Other Boleyn Girl (DVD)

If you remove all the preconceptions that this film is suppose to be historically accurate, The Other Boleyn Girl is actually a fairly decent flick. The film was well acted and both Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman put on strong performances alongside Australian born actor Eric Bana who portrays a believable Henry VII.
I’m not a fan of soap operas whatsoever, yet I can’t describe this film in any other way. Its just one big budget soap with some extra bells and whistles. The Other Boleyn Girl definitely has all the elements for a Daytime Emmy and the plot is filled with enough passion, betrayal, intrigue and romance to satisfy any soap opera fan.
Although the film lacked any real action or violence, it kept me entertained enough to finish it. If your one of those individuals who enjoy a drama filled movie and are fans of a good soap opera, this movie is definitely for you.
Synopsis:
Based on the best selling novel by Philippa Gregory, THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL is an engrossing and sensual tale of intrigue, romance, and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in history, in which two sisters, Anne (Natalie Portman) and Mary (Scarlett Johansson) Boleyn, are driven by their ambitious father and uncle to advance the family¿s power and status by courting the affections of the King of England (Eric Bana).

I thought this movie sucked. The reason I say this is because of The Tudors. I’ve seen every episode of season one and two of that show. Everything glanced over in The Other Boleyn Girl is given a full explanation and examination in The Tudors. Plus the show is just badass, not as good as Rome was but very, very good.

@Film – I never caught the Tudors episodes. Rome was very good. I was disappointed that they canceled it.
Rome cost too much for them to produce, as did Deadwood. HBO shot themselves in the foot. All they have now is Entourage.

@Film – I see. I didn’t watch Rome on HBO I saw them after the seasons were over on DVD
I’m not a soap fan, but I like some dramas. I haven’t seen The Other Boleyn Girl, but I think I’m going to pass on it as it sounds like I wouldn’t be able to keep myself awake through it.

@SizzlingPopcorn – You actually might be able to. It did get one nomination… *cough* at the teen choice awards… haha
I’ve been wanting to watch this movie, mainly because of the two actresses in it. I’m ‘that kind’ of movie goer. I go for the actors/actresses. Thanks for this =)
@fragileheart – You’ll definitely enjoy this then. Both actresses put on good performances.
