Pacquiao vs. Dela Hoya in December!

box_g_pacquiao01_400Its finally official! According to reports on ESPN.com, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) will take on “The Golden Boy” Oscar Dela Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs) in what could go down as one of the greatest boxing matches in the history of the sport. Both fighters will meet at a catch weight of 147 pounds which requires Dela Hoya to drop to a weight he hasn’t fought at in close to ten years while at the same time forcing Pacquiao to move up two full weight classes.

Both fighters who are well renown for their success in multiple weight divisions will test their mettle in a battle for stereotypical title of being called greatest pound for pound fighter. Dela Hoya currently has the edge on Pacquiao, owning six division championships to Pacquiao’s five.

The fight scheduled to be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on December 6th, has already started a huge buzz among boxing fans around the world and moments after its official announcement, the phone lines for reservations were buzzing with calls.

Personally I think this is a huge boost for the sport of boxing which has been in serious decline over the past few years. With the rise of mixed martial arts as the worlds most dominant combat sport, its nice to see boxing take back the center stage if only for a moment. Although I do have my doubts about Pacquiao’s ability to compete with a fighter so much bigger and stronger than he is, I’m going with my Filipino heritage and cheering on Pacquiao to shock the world!

THIS FIGHT IS A FAIRY TALE COME TRU MUCH LIKE THE MOVIE ROCKY4 Sylvester Stallone vs. Dolph Lundgren —Dolph Lungren at 6 foot 5 and stallone at how abt 5 10. and it was a great match. i hope this fight dlh and mp will end just like this! —copyright by ME!

  2. This is a stupid fight!

Pacman langgam ka na lalaban sa kalabaw….lol…hwag kang pauto sa mga tumutulak sa yo. hindi sila ang ma-knockdown……mag-isip isip

    GOD BLESS YOU!

  3. Pacman,
Come to think of this, maaaring ang mapapanalunan mong pera jan ay katumbas ng 3 or 5 fights with less popular boxer. Pero pano na ang Filipino pride pag natalo ka? Lahat ng magsabi dehado ka sa laban. Biglang babagsak ang karangalan nating mga Filipino…..

  4. Pacman will rise another level!!! Believe me he can make it. he overcame all the hindrance in his glory to fame and richness. just support and pray for filipinos will be uplifted again. Be RESPECTED AROUND the WORLD in terms of Boxing.

    • @archondigital – I dont believe this is a freak show. This is one of the greatest fights in the past decade. Its two of the greatest pound for pound fighters on one stage. Boxing needs this. These boxing experts are fools.

  5. F**k you dela hoya you suckk!!

you only want to fight smaller boxer than you..you are pathetic you challenge a 5’6 tall boxer?
why dont you challenge tison.??or hollyfield you moron..

    • @jayaar – Pacman took the challenge so I wouldn’t blame it all on Dela Hoya. Oscar has fought in that weight class once upon a time anyway, so it should be a interesting matchup.

  6. It’s the epic duel between Davis and Golliath.
Hinoon, Manny must believe nga wala’y dako nga makapuling pero bintaha jud ug dako bahala ug mapuling.

Nontheless, GOOD LUCK to all FILIPINOS!

  7. I’m quite excited about this fight because so far, camps are divided on who will win (if we base it on articles, blogs, and forums. Polls in both US and the Philippines show that more than 50% believe that Pacquiao will win this match. Even before the fight was decided on, when the Pacman’s team was still deliberating on what path to take after defeating Diaz, boxing aficionados/writers/experts were convinced that his fighting De La Hoya is “a long shot.” Well, Manny has proven himself many times even when he’s going against the flow. Experience, built, and height is on De La Hoya’s side. Pacquiao is a wildcard on that division but it will all be based on how he can retain his speed with his new weight and how “old and slow” Oscar has become. Last June, I was so sure Pacquiao will win…this December…let’s just say I’m not calling my bookie. =)

  8. If Manny “Pacman” Pacquaio will be in the same condition as he was during his duel with the formidabe Diaz, I am certain he’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

Everyone knows dela Hoya might be approaching the hill (not yet ver the hil though) but let’s not forget that his utter speed and his fighting style never to mention his staying power, has stopped many an opponent with above-par calibers such as Manny Pacquaio.

Being a full-fledged FIlipino myself, I will vouch for the Pacman. Anyway, whatever the outcome would be, I’m sure this is going to be a thrilling match for all to enjoy. I raise my cold Singha to both these tested & proven gladiators.
