Let me be the first to tell you that it wasn’t easy getting this site back up and running at all. It all started with my former hosting service closing down my site due to bandwidth issues. Apparently, the site was receiving too much traffic and disrupting other sites hosted on the same server.
It got worse when my former web host screwed me over and gave me a corrupt SQL database. I asked three times and they gave me alot of run around. I tried uploading the latest database when they finally provided it to me, but in the end I had to use the backup I made for myself in mid-July. The database provided was just no good. After this experience, I was glad that I made so many backups on my own. It saved my site!
As for 7milesdown.com itself, well its lost a ton of traffic, some good posts, and some entrecard drops, but I hope everyone will show a little love and support and help me get this blog off its feet again. I have most of the files for my custom template, but I’ll mess with that over the weekend. Right now I just want to savor the fact that my site is live again.
Anyway to all my friends throughout the blogsphere, please spread the word that I am back. I have a couple movie reviews to do including the new “MUMMY” movie which I’m attending the premiere of tonight and I’m hoping to share some of my experiences with moving to a new host.
Update: I think my buddy at www.asceticmonk.com needs to take a look into a new host too. Thats the second time in two months I’ve seen his bandwidth exceeded. ouch!
Which host were you using?
@Michaek – I’m using hostican. It was one of the most recommended on WordPress boards. I went with the tera host. Its speedy. Looking at my stats right now I have about 60 guests and 20 bots roaming without the hangups I had on my old host. So no complaints from me.
Welcome Back Frank…I mean Trench. What hosting were you using and what hosting company are you using now?
I have the wordpress database backup plugin installed. After hearing about your “problem,” I’m going to have to activate it and use it.
I had a similar bandwidth problem this weekend. I emailed Bluefur and they temporarily upped my bandwidth to compensate for the overage of bandwidth.

@Film – Thanks man, I’ll take a look at that shortly.
I hate when hosting companies act like that. But, I’m glad you got the site back up & running.
Enjoy the movie tonight; I don’t have high hopes for it, but if it reviews well I might go see it.

@Nicholas – man, sorry about all those lost comments! I know you made quite a few. Yeah, hosting companies man. Some of them get be evil when it comes to losing business!
Hi!
What a bummer what happened to your old site! We’re planning to have our own domain and hosting very soon, maybe you can help us when we jump the bandwagon.
Anyway, looking beyond the past, we really like your new site! We really like the theme and simple design.
Reel Advices last blog post..Reel Advice Update
@Reel Advice – Sure, let me know. The hosting Im using was highly recommended from wordpress users and with the unmetered bandwidth they provide, I wont have to worry about traffic spikes any longer.
I need to find a way to back up my site nightly, I’m sure I could do this somehow but dang – I’m glad you could save most of it!
Cs last blog post..Links for 2008-07-30 [del.icio.us]
@C – I back up monthly, sometimes twice when I post more than I should or get many comments. I wish we had nightly backups. The host I’m with does, but Im a skeptic now that my old host did this to me.
Good to have you back up and running che’lu. The move was inevitable –Tectonic plate movement in the Marianas trench nai!
@Polaris671 – Was that what it was? Techtonic plates? let me know when you want to move here so I can give you my affiliate ID! haha
Man, I hope I never get so much traffic that my host does that to me. Who am I kidding, of course I hope that happens to me one day. And of course I’ll have all my backups because I can learn from your mistake =P muahahahaha
I’m just glad you’re back online Chris :)
@fragileheart – not funny reg! lol. Trying to find some kind of reliable backup plugin. I’ve been trying Lester Chan’s but I’ve run into some problems with access. waiting on this new host to give me a response. I’ll let you guys all know.
