Travel : Busch Gardens Virginia

DSCF0016One of the highlights of my vacation this summer had to be Busch Gardens Amusement Park in Williamsburg Virginia. I had not been on a rollercoaster ride in over ten years so I was extremely excited to finally experience the rush of the wind and let loose for an entire day.

As soon as they opened the gates to the park it was pretty much non-stop for me. We started at 10:00am and I kept the pace on all the way until 6:00pm. If the rest of my family wasn’t so tired, I’d probably would have kept going until the park shut down. I was just so full of adrenaline that day. It didn’t matter that Virginia was going through a heat wave (over 100 degrees) or that I hadn’t eaten since breakfast. I just wanted to get on all the rides possible.

DSCF0012The two rides that were the most memorable for me were the Griffon and Apollo’s Chariot. The Griffon opened just months before I visited so I got to experience what they labeled as “The Worlds Tallest, Floorless, Dive Coaster”. The coaster pretty much lived up to its name and the visual you get at the top before each of the two 90 degree drops are just jaw dropping. In the two photos seen in this post, my wife and I are in the 4th and 5th seats from the left at the very front of the car. We got the totally package from this experience.

Apollo’s Chariot was very memorable mainly because of the way they secured you into the car. The only thing holding you down in your seat was a lap restraint. Your arms and shoulders were free to move around as they pleased and basically you felt weightless the entire ride.

The overall experience was great. Would I do it again? Absolutely! We were able to ride basically every major attraction the park had to offer us in the course of just a day and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. You just need to be prepared to fork out $56.95 per adult and $49.95 per child for a one day pass. Its also important to keep in mind that the refreshments and food menu’s are also a bit on the pricey side. I also would recommend you get there early to get the most bang for you buck! Have fun at the Gardens. I know I did!

Here’s a short clip of our experience on the Chariot. I dont know how my brother n law managed it, but he got some pretty good video of my nephews reaction to the ride. His face basically tells the whole story. My wife and are seated right beside them if your curious. haha. Enjoy…

  1. @ Michael- The last time I was at six flags the newest ride was the VIPER. My wife and I are planning to vacation in Cali next summer for sure.
