ramboIf you want non stop action, violence, and gore, your definitely going to get an eyeful of it when watching this film. Rambo is every action movie fan’s dream. It begins with a ton of action that rarely slows down until the final credits roll.

The storyline itself was a very basic one, but for a film such as Rambo, it fit the bill very well. The Rambo franchise was never about a great story anyway, but rather on an action packed finish. This one delivered with a capital “D”.

Sylvester Stallone returns as John Rambo, and he hasn’t missed a beat. Even after a twenty year leave of absence from the role, Stallone still manages to put on the same stoic face we remember when we left off with 1988’s Rambo III. I was a bit surprised not to see Col. Samuel Trautman (Richard Crenna) at some point in the movie, but found out a bit later after the screening that he had actually passed away in 2003. Trautman was always Rambo’s conscience and guide when his back was against the wall, and it actually felt odd without his character in the film.

I think the only downside to this film was its extreme violence. It is definitely not a film for everyone. I thought the realism was great, but I knew immediately why some critics gave such harsh reviews for the film. Its definitely not a movie for children, and I would even recommend parental discretion for anyone under the age of eighteen. Some of the scenes are incredibly graphic, and could make those with weak stomachs actually hurl. The violence is so great that I saw a couple people actually turn their heads during the several scenes.

Overall, this film is a great addition to the Rambo franchise. Rambo fans will love this movie and most action fans will enjoy its non stop pace. It will not disappoint.

Synopsis:

PHNKMQOWMLTsSU_m Twenty years after the last film in the series, John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) has retreated to northern Thailand, where he’s running a longboat on the Salween River. On the nearby Thai-Burma (Myanmar) border, the world’s longest-running civil war, the Burmese-Karen conflict, rages into its 60th year. But Rambo, who lives a solitary, simple life in the mountains and jungles fishing and catching poisonous snakes to sell, has long given up fighting, even as medics, mercenaries, rebels and peace workers pass by on their way to the war-torn region.

That all changes when a group of human rights missionaries search out the “American river guide” John Rambo. When Sarah (Julie Benz) and Michael Bennett (Paul Schulze) approach him, they explain that since last year’s trek to the refugee camps, the Burmese military has laid landmines along the road, making it too dangerous for overland travel. They ask Rambo to guide them up the Salween and drop them off, so they can deliver medical supplies and food to the Karen tribe. After initially refusing to cross into Burma, Rambo takes them, dropping off Sarah, Michael and the aid workers…

Less than two weeks later, pastor Arthur Marsh (Ken Howard) finds Rambo and tells him the aid workers did not return and the embassies have not helped locate them. He tells Rambo he’s mortgaged his home and raised money from his congregation to hire mercenaries to get the missionaries, who are being held captive by the Burmese army. Although the United States military trained him to be a lethal super soldier in Vietnam, decades later Rambo’s reluctance for violence and conflict are palpable, his scars faded, yet visible. However, the lone warrior knows what he must do… Source: Coming Soon

Hey, you actually decided to see it! I heard in Vietnam, for the theaters, they cut out a ton of the violence so the movie is actually 30 mins shorter.

Just watched this last night. The first taste of action when the group encounters the river pirates has got to be one of the highest tension moments I have ever experienced in an action film. At 60-ish Sly still looks wicked in the role. Running through the Jungle at his age it looked like he could do this kind of role easy. You have to love the explosion on this one too. Probably the biggest in the franchise. Overall the movie was short, but sweet. Great action movie.

Forgot to mention in my last post, the DVD I watched was really skimpy on the Extras. This treatment is not something that you would expect of a long-running franchise like Rambo. There’s history here. Even an interview with Stallone or background commentary would have been great.
