Iron Man (Theaters)

iron_man_ver4Iron Man now ranks at the top of the charts in regards to my favorite Marvel films released to date. The adaptation from comic book to feature film was on the money and it was released at such a perfect time to help kick off a summer filled with blockbuster movies. The film started off a bit slow, but it was needed to retell the birth of a new superhero.

I was extremely impressed with the cinematography, in particular the CGI suit worn by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the film. The movements were crisp and clean, and the armored suit was a thing of beauty. The soundtrack was also perfect for the feature, and the Black Sabbath tune stuck out in my head long after I left the theaters.

I can’t say enough about Robert Downey Jr. He is the movie. Without Downey, this film definitely would not have been such a huge success that its been thus far. Downey was flawless. He charismatic demeanor was perfect for the movie, and his development from weapons mogul to superhero was done smoothly and without a hitch. Terrance Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges also play their roles quite well, yet it was Downey who was the glue that made this film stick.

My recommendation? Its a must see in theaters. Don’t wait for it to come out on DVD. Its Stay after the closing credits too! Lets just say, we get a hint of whats to come!

  2. I checked this out on Saturday. Your review is spot on. Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Tony Stark was sheer genius. I’ve been a fan of the character since the 80s when the Armor Wars arc was running. The actor’s personal demons and vices make him a solid choice for the character. Although Tony Stark is not much of a comedian, I feel that Robert Downey Jr.’s new spin on that character area made for a better film. I’ve been a fan of the actor since “Only You” where he acted opposite Marisa Tomei and I am glad to see that his acting can be seen by such a large audience. I hope there is a franchise in the making here. I would love to see a couple more Iron Man movies. The armor wars arc would be great material.

If possible, I would love to see Dr. Strange brought to the silver screen. It might have to be done 100% CGI to get it just right. A Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD (the organization that got a mention in IRON MAN) movie would also be nice. Bruce Willis or maybe Kurt Russell would be great casting options. Any characters you hope to see with a movie?

  3. Right on Polaris! I totally agree with your assessments! Nick Fury! The first time I saw the guy and heard S.H.I.E.L.D. I new something was up!!

  4. i love robert downey jr. as iron man! i disagree that the movie started slow…one minute he was trying to take a picture with a soldier doing a peace sign, then booom!

  6. Excellent review and I agree with it completely. This was a great superhero movie unlike the garbage that was spiderman 3. They took their time to set up how Tony Stark became iron man. Downey jr. is one of my favorite actors. He was funny and believable in the role. Jeff Bridges and Gwennyth Paltrow were great as well.
