Jabbawockeez FTW? (Best Dance Crew)

I’ve been a huge fan of Kaba Modern since their debut on America’s Best Dance Crew a little over a month ago. After their sick performance on premiere night, I actually had them as the clear favorites to win the title.
But after five weeks of intense competition between the crews, my thoughts on the best have changed. Although I’m still a huge fan of Kaba and I wish them all the best in the show, I now have the Jabawockeez as the favorites to win with Kaba Modern at a very close second.
The reason for the change you might ask? Well, I still feel that Kaba has the better isolations and pay more attention to the detail of their moves than Jaba. However, the Jabbawockeez have put on a much larger repertoire of moves than Kaba Modern and this was very evident in their last performance which paid tribute to the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Jaba’s performance of “Pretty Young Thing” was much more entertaining than Kaba Modern’s “Thriller” and when the voting polls opened up, I put all biased opinions aside and voted for the best performance of the night which I thought clearly belonged to the Jabawockeez’s.
Now you can be the judge. I embeded both clips Here is the link to both performances from the Michael Jackson tribute. Please vote on MTV.com for your favorite crew.

There’s just no way that Jabbawockeez and Kaba Modern aren’t the last 2 teams left. Imagine the head to head battles!
I agree NDO. If those skater boys somehow beat one of them, I’ll be royally pissed!
Have to agree with you 100%. Was rooting for Kaba Modern due to the live audition performance, but became a Jabba fan from the first real episode when they performed to “Apologize”. Their performance to P.Y.T was off the hook. The opening sequence with the wardrobe-assisted choreography reminded me of why everyone loved mike so much back in the day. I have to agree with NDO. If Jabba and Kaba are not the last two teams then I will be really disappointed. I’m on Jabba to take the win!
After seeing this compilation clip of the jabba performances, it just adds to my appreciation of what they do. I would never have guessed that they start each number where they left off on the last. Awesome!
Boo :( I can’t access the videos for some reason.
fragileheart’s last blog post..C-C-Changes
@ Reggie, it seems you have to click it and it relocates you to MTV.com Not sure why they do this all of a sudden now.
@ Polaris, saw that clip before. Its pretty sick. I attached the link to your name instead because those free links on the posts get moderated for spam purposes.
jabawoks are good, idk about the whole mask-mime thing, im leaning towards Kama-sutra cuz they gots hot chicks!!!!the woks are good no doubt, but i like individuality, even within groups, i understand the whole “wanna be as one” thing but i like personality….both are great dance groups—KAMA SUTRA!!!! the skater doods are solid performers too, they may not win this comp, but they are definetly in a league of their own….
karma sutra? LOL. Your watching too much redtube! lol
Kaba Modern is the 2nd best in my opinion. They’re very good dancers, and they hit the notes of their songs tightly, but seem very bland to me. I don’t see any deep meaning or intelligence in their dance routines.
Now the JabbaWockeez amaze me! This group has a lot of depth. They put thought into the things they do. You ever wonder why they start each performance the way they ended their previous performance? I thought it was just something they did each time but didn’t really know why.
Kevin Brewer (best dancer in the group in my opinion) said that they like to play the role of marionettes when they perform. Marionettes are those old school string puppets. Kevin said when the music starts, we, the marionettes dance. And when the music stops, the marionettes stop. So basically the music brings them to life.
So that’s the reason you see them starting each performance in the poses that they ended the previous performances. If you watch their performances, you can see spots where they move like string puppets.
Watch their arms go up and down, how they move their heads and bend their knees.
Their superman defying gravity ending was sick. They really think outside of the box. They’re just screaming creativity. They played with lil mama in episode 4, by making her the focus of the song and giving her the mask. They’re not just getting up there and dancing, they’re putting on a show for us. Which I find fun to watch.
Episode 5, Michael Jackson tribute, they hit that too. In a tribute to MJ you have to pull off moves like him.
They had the jackets and hat like MJ wore back in the days. They did those pop ups with the jackets, played with their wardrobe, like MJ used to do. They pulled off the same stances and dance moves that MJ used to do. Kevin’s solo was crazy. When he came up and led the group MJ style. His movements were sharp, hard and with flare. MJ was just like that if you watch his music videos.
If you watch the next show, they should start out how they ended last show. They threw their MJ hats to the crowd on their left leaving their right arms outstretched and heads looking up/left. The music starts and marionettes come back to life.

Jabba was the only group to really impress me for Broadway week. Beyond the choreography, their costume was pimp!
I’d hope jabba wins, since i find them to be by far the most entertaining crew.
I kind of think Mtv is pulling for them to lol. The next episode “the history of hiphop” is likely going to center around breaking which is what they’re all about. The voting seems kinda shady since Status went from bottom 2 to top 2, they may just put people in the bottom 2 to try and get more of their fans calling in.
It’s hard to imaging that of the judges at least Shane didn’t know all about kabba and jabba before the competition began. He makes an effort to seem unbiased, but if Jc criticizes them he’ll lose it and start calling them the best dancers of all time.
yes in the audtion i thought kaba was going to win i i like them too and jabba was going to be second…..but watching the first episode the jabba had me be the wind..hheeee… and i started to look for other vids in youtube……but i have been reading in other forums that this show has a pre-determined winner..and that the crew will be back ups for lil mama’s video……..
:(
i miss iconic and lic……..dreamgirls for breaksk8………i heard kaba got their mixed at 10 before tuesday….now i know this show is bull…..geezzzz…..no matter what jabba is my fave for life and im going to buy their tees….sorry for the long post :(
Yep – I would agree with that.. Thanks for the line.
I still love Kaba Modern and feel that they were the best! They were the most precise! They beasted the whole competition! I like Jabba too! But my heart was with Kaba!!!
yall are the best i watch every episode and if anybody else would win i would be beyond pissed off
