Its a bird, its a plane, its Dwight Howard!

nba_g_dhoward_412BIts a bird, its a plane, its Dwight Howard! Our 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Champion!

Howard, sporting one of America’s most celebrated superhero costumes became the Man of Steel for the evening and took flight by performing some of the most athletic and unique dunks in the history of the competition.

“I really wanted to win it because everybody said I couldn’t do it, and I believe in myself and I believe I could do it,” Howard said. “That’s all I was saying in my head. ‘I’m going to win the dunk contest.’”

Congrats to Howard on a well deserved win! The Slam Dunk Competition had lost some of its luster over the years, but he definitely made it the highlight of this years events.

  6. I liked some of the dunks he made especially the bounce of the board with left hand and dunk with the right hand one. Why am I not impressed? Yeah, he jumps high but dunking is easy because he’s very tall. He’s 6′11. Another thing I don’t like about having tall players participate in the Slam Dunk contest is because it doesn’t look nice and finesse like the guards/forwards doing it ala Vince Carter or Michael Jordan where you can see them soar and float. Also, I admire the Superman costume but the execution was weak. It wasn’t even a dunk, he just threw the ball in. Well, you could disagree but that’s my opinion. :D

  7. I do disagree! why? Its always the big men ridiculed for not being able to do anything besides just slam the ball down. Those dunks we unbelievable and took some agility!

Last years dunk champ was just 3 inches shorter at 6′8. Carter is 6′6 and so was Jordan.

Height is definitely not an issue.

Its all about entertainment when it comes to dunks. He awed the audience and judges, so you can’t take it away from the guy. 78% of the fans voted for D12. Thats a landslide! Your the small minority!
