Bob Marley is Back!

As I was making my rounds on entrecard, I ran into some interesting news on Media Morgue regarding Reggae icon Robert Nesta Marley.
As a huge fan of Marley’s music, I was ecstatic to hear word of an upcoming documentary on his life and legacy. I had heard rumors about an upcoming movie on Marley a couple years back starring Jamie Foxx, but I wasn’t too happy with the casting.
Here’s an excerpt from my previous post on Jamie Foxx as Bob Marley.
Now for the last and the most important problem I see with this casting. The aura that is Bob Marley. The essence. The soul. It can’t be duplicated. You could argue that many people believe that Bob is similar to a messiah. Come to this earth too spread the message of truth, and lead his people away from the chaos which seems to be our lives today. Bob Marley was a very special individual. One in a billion. You can’t act like a savior. You have to live it. Something I think is too big of a challenge even for a talented actor like Foxx to do.
Lets just hope that director Martin Scorsese chooses a cast which will honor Marley in his entirety. I’ll be keeping a close watch.

Hey! Thanks for the post trench.
I’ve been a fan of Marley since I was a little kid and I’d hate to see a film about him that does him no justice.
Not so sure about Foxx. I don’t mind him as an actor, but he’s done too many roles that weren’t that good.
I hope they don’t pick Will Smith either. :)

I like Jamie Foxx specially in the movie Bait. But haven’t seen him played roles that good. I think some roles isn’t just for him? Well anyway, I hope he’ll bring justice to Bob Marley. I dunno who can else can stand up as the actor for the Bob Marley movie. It’s kinda hard to pick an actor for someone like him. Hope it will turn out well.

Jaime Foxx? Not sure.
As for the “aura” of Bob, I think a lot of that could be portrayed just by making sure the cast and crew are stoned at all times.

Now Jamie Foxx is supposedly the lead role in a MIKE TYSON type documentary. WTF. He better get bigger than he is! Much bigger! And get a higher pitched voice. haha
The problem is that I just dont think Jamie Foxx has the right personality. Just something about his character that never comes across as kind or loving. Just thugish.
