Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

guitar-hero-3-360-bundle1Crank up that amp because its time to rock! I just picked up Guitar Hero III a couple days ago and its been utterly addicting. The game play is fast, the songs are great (I was ecstatic when I saw Metallica’s “One” on the playlist), and there is a solid selection of modes to choose from.

I had actually attempted to learn how others played by watching several youtube clips, but instead of helping me to get better, it actually discouraged me! Some of these kids were playing the game like they were born with the guitar in their hand. Expert mode looked so easy as I watched them fret away. I have already encountered some difficulty just playing medium. I can’t imagine ever getting through expert.

MTV Guitar Hero

So far, the hardest song I’ve completed was “Raining Blood” by Slayer during The Battle for your Soul tour. Even on easy I had missed way too many notes. I’m not sure if I’ll ever perfect that song.

Now for my Pro’s and Con’s of Guitar Hero III.

The best thing about Guitar Hero? Its playlists. They have everything from career mode to battle modes online. So far, I’ve only touched the career mode on easy and medium and dabbled with the quickplay, but I plan to test out my skills online as soon as I get decent with the hard mode.

What was really nice was the fact that the game included a practice session on its playlist and allowed you to choose sections of the song to focus on. So instead of playing the songs completely over again, I could pick the part I wanted to play and repeat it over as many times as I needed to. There were several solos I wanted to work on, and in practice, I had the opportunity to work just on those sections alone.

How can they improve Guitar Hero III? They definitely need more music for download, and they need to contact more legendary artists for their music rights.

On the disc alone, there are about 74 songs total. There was a nice selection of songs to play, but I still felt that the title lacked alot of “legendary” artists. This is “The Legends of Rock” edition right? Hopefully we’ll be able to download more “legendary” music in the future. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy some Foo Fighters and AFI to help me during my workouts at the gym, but those bands should not be considered rock legends just yet. This title definitely should have paid tribute to the older rock bands out there. Where is my Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Queen, AC/DC, and Van Halen? Where is Black Sabbath, more Metallica, and Stone Temple Pilots! Nirvana anyone? Listen up and get with the program! I want to ROCK with the real Legends of Rock and Roll!

  5. I’ve completed majority of Medium mode. The final battle against the boss is tough. Still can’t beat him. lol. I’m okay with the Blue Fret, but when the notes are too close together and I see all four of them coming, I just freak out and I get completely lost! LMAO

  6. good luck trying to get some sleep with guitar hero in your house. :0) it looks fairly easy but is quite difficult when you first give it a go. i remember being so frustrated on easy mode while testing it out at an electronics superstore that i ended up doing the tutorial, and i still scored about 12 percent. i told the best buy worker who was trying to contain his laughter, “am i the only one lame enough to do tutorial mode at the store?” he only snickered. needless to say, i’m going back to mariokart…
