Halo 3 vs. Call of Duty 4

It took a bit of time to get through both titles, but I finally had the chance to complete both campaigns and experience enough online gaming to make a fair comparison between two of the hottest games of this year.
When it came to graphics and sound quality Call of Duty 4 completely blew away Halo 3 in comparison. CoD4 is graphically the most realistic video game I’ve played to date. Everything from the grass to the computer keyboards are meticulously rendered, and at times it feels as if you are walking through an online movie rather than a interactive video game.
The sound quality and responses from the A.I are also far more advanced in Cod4 than Halo 3. This is most notable in the campaign mode. When you hear your fellow soldiers call for help or relay commands, its as realistic as it can get. The score was also very well written and I particularly love the drums or war being played as we prepare for battle.
In multiplayer mode however, Halo 3 definitely has the advantage over Call of Duty 4. I remember my first experience playing Halo 3 online and being able to compete with my opponents. As I increased in rank, the opponents got tougher, but I improved as my rank went up, so the competition level was pretty fair. Halo 3’s matchmaking system is definitely the best in the business, and I really hope future multiplayer shooters will follow suit with Halo 3’s matchmaking system.
With CoD4, it was a different experience altogether. It was as if I was just thrown to the wolves. I guess they wanted to make it more realistic? When does a guy go to war with easier enemies than harder ones right? From the get go I was matched up with insanely advanced players and I recall being completely destroyed (PWNED) by the competition. It took a bit of luck to find a enemy team that I could play well against. The more I played the better it got, but it didn’t come easy and I was mocked quite a bit before I actually started doing well enough to keep my opponents mouths shut.
Finally, there is the game’s replayability. This one was so close I really could not decide. Both titles had great components to them that keep you wanting more. The best part with Halo 3 is without a doubt its matchmaking. This alone makes you want to play the game over and over. I recall playing Halo 2 for over 3 years before Halo 3 was released because of its matchmaking on XBOX Live and LAN games at friends homes.
With CoD4, I love the fact that you can unlock more weapons and armor. It takes sometime to unlock them all, so you get really familiar with the different types of weapons the game has to offer and your skill set becomes better as you learn to master the use of a set of weapons before unlocking the next. The campaign is also really fun and it was actually the first campaign I have ever played at least twice!
So I guess at the end of the day these games are deadlocked in a tie as far as I’m concerned. Each have something the other is lacking yet both have a very high replayability value. It basically comes down to what type of game you are looking for. A highly realistic game in CoD4, or just a fun shoot’em up with great matchmaking in Halo 3.

IMO: (not attacking anyone, or COD4, both games are great but this is my opinion why one is better than the other)
Halo 3 is much better online multiplayer game. COD4 is more of a point and shoot game that doesn’t require as much skill. COD4 is MUCH more realistic, don’t get me wrong, which is good, but video games aren’t as much fun when they are too realistic. COD4 is limited to what you can do, you cannot be elusive in it, and you cant use as many tactics, and its very slow moving. In COD4 it generally ends up being “The winner is the one who sees the opponent first” Simply put, you cannot kill a low skilled player if they happen to see you in front of them and get a bullet off on you. I know you may say “but thats what makes it so hard and better, because you have to always be thinking, its like real life!” No because no matter how good you are, you can be killed by any crappy player at any time, and once someone has seen you, you can’t get away. The best players in COD4, are the ones who camp in a building, because they know that they can only take one person at a time, and their aim is better than everyone elses, so they will win one on one if they watch straight ahead of them. COD4 lacks mostly in game play speed, fire fights last for 2 seconds at the most because its a simple spray of bullets to kill someone, no matter where it hits them. You can’t elude the enemy because when you jump, you jump about a foot off the ground, which can’t get you anywhere except for maybe over a cabinet on the ground, also you are generally too slow to make it around a corner before you die.
In halo 3, the game requires a large amount of accuracy, and the better player generally always wins. All players start equally equipped. In halo, you can always beat the other player no matter what weapon they have if you are better, because you can take a decent amount of damage, you can always kill him with well placed grenades, and you can use more tactical methods than in COD4, such as jumping from ledge to ledge or jumping over the enemy, or using some way to outsmart him. Halo is much more than point and shoot, it requires the player to think the whole time. In halo, a skilled player can kill two or more decent players at once with other ways than just spraying bullets. Since you are quicker in halo 3 than COD4, if you are smart you can usually get away because the maps are designed to allow the player to use his skills to elude the enemy. A stupid player in halo, simply gets owned and outskilled. Which is much of the reason why more people love COD4, because you can be a stupid player and not very skilled, but still get a few kills by spraying some bullets. COD4 makes bad player think they are good, because they can kill people by shooting them first, and because the more time you put into the game, the higher your rank is because you can’t de-level.This makes bad players addicted to the game of spraying bullets, because they feel gratified by getting easy kills and leveling up higher than their more skilled friends. Im not saying that all COD4 players have no skill, they just don’t get to exercise their skills as much as in Halo 3.
OVERALL:
Call of Duty can be fun, but not as fun as halo on a COMPETITIVE level. Call of Duty has great graphics and is much more realistic gameplay(too realistic). Halo 3 has excellent graphics but perhaps not as good as COD4, although I think that Halo’s is better to look at. Both games are good, but I just can’t play COD4 over Halo 3 because it is boring and easy to me. Halo 3 requires much more skill and simply has more to it, which makes it more fun for me, and thats why I think its better, in my opinion.
Well it is a difficult decision but I think cod4 wins.Mainly because of multiplayer.Campain both suck equaly, but multiplayer is pwnage.COD4 has unlockibles while halo 3 just proves your gay

I’ve played both for long periods of time. I never touched the CoD4 single player because nothing pulled me in. I played the Halo3 single player because of the benefits in multiplayer (armor anyone?).
Graphics – CoD4 def. has great graphics. The framerate is smoother and transitioning back to halo3 is tough because you notice the lower frames per second in halo3 (you eventually get used to it though).
Online Gameplay – I found CoD4 very fun alone. Even they put me in random games and I hardly found teamwork going on, I could tolerate it. I get very frustrated in halo when I don’t have a party to go in with. I def. found the halo3 multiplayer better.
One thing that really frustrated me in CoD4 was how I was able to jump into it and get kills very easy. I found it very easy to work with red dot + shooting. I eventually transitioned to snipers because I felt using all the automatic weapons were just too easy and boring, Sniping is hella fun on CoD4.
In the end, I stuck out with halo3 because I had unfinished business in there. I got my level up very high in CoD4 (never went into prestige) so I felt I had completed it. When I get a 50 in halo, I don’t know what will happen then.
BTW, the CoD4 ranking sucks. Anyone can get the highest visible rank.
HALO 3 IS BETTER THAN COD 4. i feel that cod 4 is too easy. i also feel there is less skill required for cod 4 because its basically whoever sees the enemy first will win. you may not realize it but the higher ranked players u play in halo 3, u start to see that there is sooooooo much more strategy in it than any other game, not to mention its the most addicting online game ever. graphics don’t really matter to me because i just want fun gameplay, cod 4 def. is better when it comes to graphics and sound. so im my opinion HALO OWNS!!!!!!!!!!

i own halo 3 and cod 4 on 360, i have a headset and xbox live, frankly, i do prefer te fact that joining games in cod 4 is quick (altho when you join a game at its end it prices me off very much, halo 3 takes ages to find a game yet is awesome with vehicles and guns , and character customisation.
halo 3 – 9.6/10 (campain rather long with 4 player co op)
Cod 4 – 9.5/10 (campeign too short and not co op)

So first off to quote the writer of the article above, “The sound quality and responses from the A.I are also far more advanced in Cod4 than Halo 3.” This is not entirely true, I played through Cod4 on veteran and even sky dived to safety. While playing I noticed that the A.I. always knows where you are in the game, which is awesome when you have to crawl around a corner so you can peak out your head and shoot their foot because if you expose more of yourself than that they shoot you first. Anyone who has played the silo mission knows what I’m talking about. That is indeed advanced A.I. they use wall hacks. Wall Hacks for the WIN!!! In Halo 3 you can surprise enemies and they also communicate with each other verbally. You hear the brutes saying, ‘Find them!” and some other enemies with say, ‘They’re over here.” What game were you playing? Halo 3 isn’t supposed to be realistic. That seems to be the point most Cod4 people don’t understand.
honestly, i love both games but lately i’ve been playing CoD 4 and at least right now i like it a lot more than halo 3. i’ve only been playing halo 3 for like 2 months, and a big negative for me is that there are people who play it so much and have been playing all the halos games since the first halo (halo 3 is my first halo game ever) that their frustratingly good and it just makes the game not as fun. still an awesome game though.

halo 3 sucks doesnt play fair, it cannot handle speed of killing an opponent. One example: a guy with a plasma rifle vs a guy with a shotgun. who wins? it depends who is the fastest to get the kill. Halo 3 its not about accuracy its about how lucky u survive. Cuz last time i have the shotgun and this guy have this sniping rifle. I have the shotgun right on his face and shoot him first and he kill me sniping me. wtf is that? other time i have the sniping rifle and other guy have the shotgun. it happen so damn quick that it looks that he shot me first. But slow motion it I shot him first right on his f**** face. Or last time this guy have no shield and i shot him 3 times with the brute shot he didnt die and he threw me the power drain and shot me.. i die. i have clips to prove. Same weapons with no particular secondary weapon. The only thing its good about its the ranking system if loose u rank down if u win u rank up. COD 4 should be like that. COD 4 is the man!

Ok. My Views on the Game. Ive played both games now for about 1month each, completed the campaign on both and traveled far enough into the online multiplayer.
Sound and graphics, i totally agree COD4 totally blew away Halo.
Campaign, in my opinion Halo 3’s campaign seemed to drag on but COD4’s campaign i could do over and over again.
Multiplayer, i agree that its unfair when your thrown into more advanced players into COD4 so we can give Halo that and its matchmaking system, but once playing COD4 you enjoy it alot better, so i think Halo has the slightest edge on that,
Communication, Halo wins this hands down, when playing halo, i hear the voices clear as day but on COD4 i can hardly hear them over the sound of my mass bullet penetrating. this both bad and good point to COD but Halo wins this.
Replayability, COD4 easy as that.
Skill, There is no way to decide skill because the games are different, but, IN MY OPINION, i think it takes more skill in COD4 to sneek up on your oponents and watch your every corner, than on Halo where its basically whoever has more health wins.
That is based on my opinions and veiws.
COD4 is way more fun than halo because people realy dont play call of duty online that much once u start to play it more it gets realy fun because u start killing alottt. halo 3 is realy borin when u start wich lasts for a pretty long time u get killed soooo easily and the reason why people dont play call of duty 4 is because they hear there friends talk about it all the time and no one even cares about call of duty 4 cuz of that…… plus call of duty has awsome graphics.
