Antonella Barba. The next American Idol?

070228_idol_vmed_7p.widecI’ve been keeping track of American Idol 6 primarily because my wife loves the show. I guess you can call it our quality time together. So far, I think that Lakisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle are the frontrunners to win the competition when the season comes to its end. Based on their performances, I think that the both of them are at a much higher level vocally than the rest of the contestants. I also have high hopes for Chris Sligh, but I just don’t feel he’ll get enough votes from the public. I just can’t see the fans wanting him as their next American Idol.

Then comes Antonella Barba. I’m not sure if anyone realizes this, but the girl is extremely hot with a mediocre voice. I told my wife that I thought she was very beautiful, but when I first heard her sing in Hollywood, I was almost certain that she would not make the final 24. I was wrong. She not only made the final 24, but continues to get enough votes in each round to move on and has ousted much better talent than herself. I honestly feel that much of the reason for her success is due to her beauty, nude photos, and other interesting media on the internet.

We all need to take a step back and realize what this competition is all about. Its primary about the contestants vocal talent and consistency. Yes, she can hold a note and she is better than many other singers I’ve heard in the past, but she is definitely not the best on the show. If she makes it much farther, I think it will be a disgrace to the competition.

  1. Um, I really don’t think we’ll see Antonella get any further in the competition. Of course beauty is subjective and I personally don’t consider her to be that pretty but hopefully America will vote correctly and judge performance on vocals more than anything. I’m rooting for Stephanie Edwards

  2. I agree with you on this one. My daughters were rooting for her after the initial auditions because they thought she was pretty. After the last round, even THEY had to admit that she wasn’t in the same league as some of the other singers. Lakisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle have blown away the other contestants vocally, without a doubt!

  4. My girlfriend thinks Antonella is fugly. :( I like her tone a lot. She never shrieks.

What’s up with that dress?! It looks like something Eric Foreman’s mom would wear.

Just like Jorge, I’m rooting for Stephanie Edwards for the girls. I still think that Antonella will make the top 12 though.

For the guys, I’m going with the one with the best voice - SANJAYA MALAKAR! woohoo

Ade: I think Lakisha is very overrated. Mandisa was better. Heck, Paris was better. Melinda is the real deal, but she does look like Zorayda Sanchez.

    SANJAYA FTW!!!!

  6. Sorry but since when is American Idol about people who can sing? It is about money. Period. No matter which country, no matter the title of the show (yeah we have it too in Europe) it is always just about money, not talent.

  7. I think a lot of the talents this season are quite mediocre. Then again, I thought the last season was amazing because I was rooting for Daughtry, among other hopefuls. (Now he has a great record out and making himself known albeit being eliminated.) This season just seems.. meh. Yes, Antonella is beautiful, but I personally would not vote for her just because of that reason alone.
