This movie was basically a updated version of Titanic with a giant wave instead of an iceburg. I can’t really think of any other way to describe it. I know it was based on the Poseidon Adventure, but I’ve never watched the film so I can’t really say it was similar to that.
What Poseidon lacked was good characters. We had Kurt Russell, John Lucas, and Richard Dreyfuss, but none of them really seemed to take on the lead role. They all lacked the charisma needed to make Poseidon a great film. By the ending credits, I can’t say that there was any sort of attachment to any of them.
Visually the film was excellent. But in most of the films I’ve watched recently, the visual effects have always been stunning. I think the movie makers need to step back and think about what makes a movie great. Its the characters and storyline. It was really lacking in this one.
The $140 million budget for this film was a huge waste. Yes you read it right, $140 million. At best this film would make a decent one day rental. I wouldn’t recommend much more from it. I would also suggest a serious investigation involving the manufacturers of those iceburg and tsunami warning devices. They haven’t seemed to be working properly the past couple years.
While ringing in the new year aboard the cruise ship Poseidon, a giant wave crashes into the ship and flips it upside down. A ragtag group of survivors realize their only chance is to make their way to the deepest bowels of the ship, now at the top, if they are going to have any chance of getting out.
So basically… it’s like Titanic but without the best part which was the love story between Jack and Rose? BOO-Urns!!
Completely agree, not worth the celluloid it is printed on. Just goes to show, this money could have been spent better in a million ways, e.g. for a Rome Season 3 which we will never get.
We got Poseidon though, yay.
@Reggie- Hey, what happened to your blog?
@ihad- I’ve never watched any of the Rome series. Wasn’t it on HBO or something?
Wow, I didn’t watch that movie yet, but I heard from friends that it was really good. I am surprised to see another point of view. Nonetheless, it is a valuable one. Thanks!
i havent seen this but i have seen poesiden adventure. but yea it does sound like a different version of titanic.
agreed…movie sucked, no attachment to characters. They put all the excitement at the beginning of the movie and then all you want is for them all to die…as fast as possible. Titanic..I bawled for hours. Literally.
Yes “Rome” was and is on HBO it will return for a season 2 in march (?) 2007 but won’t have any seasons beyond that. I made a small review on it here:
