Apocalypto (Theaters)
Apocalypto delivers an adrenaline pumping rush from the opening sequence to the closing credits. I was very impressed with this film, and it really solidified Mel Gibson as one of the best directors of his generation.
The movie was very well paced and I was on the edge of my seat most of the film. The storyline was simple yet satisfying, and the actors played their roles flawlessly. Some who watched this film have mentioned that the film contained excessive violence and gore. I personally felt that the images and violence when put into context of the film was appropriate. The drama, hardship, and pain felt by these people would not have been felt by the audience if many of the violent scenes were edited or deleted.
I would easily vote Apocolypto as the best movie of 2006. I really can’t see another film topping this one. The movie however is very gory and violent so I would highly recommend leaving any children under the age of 14 at home. I would also advise that you skip this film if you have a weak stomach or dislike violence amongst women and children. The movie portrays the realities and hardships of life back in the dark ages. Ruthless and Unrelenting.
As the Maya kingdom faces its decline, the rulers insist the key to prosperity is to build more temples and offer human sacrifices. Jaguar Paw, a young man chosen for sacrifice, flees the kingdom to avoid his fate.

I just finished seeing this one. It’s really good. I’m out of state right now, but as soon as I get the chance, I’ll blog about it.

@Ade- Have you watched the actual film yet?
@ Marz- no problem. Go and see it. Its one of those films that need to watched in the theaters.

When I saw this trailer, I thought… what’s wrong with Mel Gibson? I loved “Passion of the Christ”, but sadly, Apocalytpo isn’t for me.

I’ve been intrigued about this movie ever since it came out. I am impressed with Mel as a director (and I liked Passion of The Christ, even though it was quite a bucketful to take in). Thanks for the review!
