Ear Infection Woes

I have an ear infection. It felt much worse yesterday, but the pain seems to have subsided today. Im still trying to figure out what exactly caused the problem, and I have not been able to see a doctor yet. I haven’t had the flu nor have I gone swimming so its kind of odd that my ears have gotten infected. I’ve never had an ear infection before.

I had really wanted to visit the doctor today, but I had to go into work because it was Parent Teacher Conference. There was no way around it. I could not take the day off to see the doc when parents were visiting to pick up their child’s report cards. So during my break, I decided to have the school nurse check my ears and she discovered that my left ear was swollen red and that was causing the pain to shoot up to my head.

Im not a big fan of visiting the doctor, but it seems I may need to see one even though the swelling has gone down. From what I have researched online, it can get far worse than a headache if its not treated early. Looks like its sickleave and a trip to the doctor tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

  1. Wow, this is weird. I’m just kind of recovering from a bad ear infection right now.

A word of advice, don’t let any water in the ear or rub it from the outside in any way. No poking either. Most likely causes I learnt was the overflow of wax that’s hardening or excess water going inside the ear.

Best of luck at the docs though mate.

  2. Ear inections are defintely FTL. Thank goodness it’s been years since I had a major one.

Tossing a couple cents on top of Abdul’s comment, excess water left in your ear canal (showering, bathing, what have you) can combine with some nasty stuff that just happens to be in there already. It got so bad with me when I was young that I would spend a touch of time using a blowdryer to lightly dry out my ear after showering…

Anywho, best of luck at the doctor. Probably will give you an eardrop or two.

  3. What’s FTL?

Tell your wife to stop licking your ears, nai! LOL! J/K! Hahahaha! (Sorry, Mel! Just had to say it!)

    Hope you get better soon!

  4. I suffered from many ear infections as a child and even into adulthood, though I haven’t had one in years, thankfully. I really don’t know what causes them, but mine were so bad that I had to see an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist for years. It can also be related to your sinuses–all that stuff is connected somehow, I guess that’s why they call those doctors ENTs. Best to get it taken care of ASAP. They’ll either give you anti-biotics or ear drops. Maybe both. Good luck!

  5. Hey… tried to leave a message last night but my (free therefore stolen) internet decided to cut out just as I finished typing my message. I hope you feel better soon! (Though that’s not what the last message said!)
