The New World (DVD)

newworld The previews for this film looked really good. I remember watching a couple trailers in the theaters and telling my wife that I really wanted to see this. It had a good cast of actors and the director Terrence Malick did produce one of my favorite World War II movies, A Thin Red Line.

After finally viewing the film, I must say it was a big disappointment. The film was beautiful to look at and the score was done very well, but it lacked in the areas that count most for a film to succeed. The biggest problem with this entire feature was that it lacked any continuity. There were parts of the film that completely lost me. It dragged in many parts, and it had very little character development.

If you don’t have much patience, I’d avoid this film at all costs.

Synopsis:

The New World is an epic adventure set amid the encounter of European and Native American cultures during the founding of the Jamestown settlement in 1607. Inspired by the legend of John Smith and Pocahontas, acclaimed filmmaker TERRENCE MALICK transforms this classic story into a sweeping exploration of love, loss and discovery, both a celebration and an elegy of the America that was…and the America that was yet to come.

  1. The only cover you could find was one from a different language? Or was that intentional? :P

Haven’t seen it, but was advised from EVERYONE I talked to not to see it. It almost makes me want to see it.
