I have been a devoted and loyal San Francisco fan for as long as I can remember. Even though the team has gone to the bottom echelon of the NFL in recent years, I still cheer for them as if they are contenders for the Vince Lombardi.
The 80′s 49ers really made me a fan of professional football. Of course my favorite players included Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, and Ronny Lott. I used to always tell my uncles who were die hard Oakland fans that the 49ers ruled the bay area. That was pretty much the case until Rice was released by the 49ers and signed with the Raiders in 2001. You can imagine how upset I was over this deal. I could not believe the Niners released the NFL’s most prolific wide reciever to play with their bay area rivals. Those three years were the worst for me. While my team fell to the depths of the abyss, the Raiders went on to the Superbowl in 2002. Although they lost the superbowl, Rice was a key reason for their successful season.
To sum things up, today the niners actually signed Rice to a one day deal so he could retire in crimson and gold. He retires where his legacy as the greatest NFL reciever of all time started. I’m glad he’s come home. Thanks for the memories! Now, you can focus on working on that Cha Cha! lol…
