Christopher Reeves would be proud of this film. While I was waiting for the movie to start, I realized that Reeves had passed almost two years ago from his battle with paralysis. As a adolecent growing up in the mid 80’s and early 90’s, to many of us, Reeves was the “Man of Steel“.

I was pretty skeptic about the film when I first saw the previews. The special effects looked fantastic, but I wasnt too sure if an unknown actor could successfully take the place of Reeves on the bigscreen. I was dead wrong. Brandon Routh didnt just play the role of superman, he defined the character all over again. He had the look, the smirk, the voice, and all the right mannerisms that was portrayed by the original “Man of Steel”. He definately paid homage to Christopher Reeves, yet made the character his own.

When the opening credits started rolling and the superman theme song started playing, I could feel the little needles and the hairs line up my back. It was pure nostalgia and I was a child again.

Many critics of the film argued that the plot and character development were not detailed enough. I totally agree with them. Alot of people viewing “superman” for the very first time will not understand his entire character and the storyline if they have not watched the original 1978 film. Yet even with this films faults, I think that everyone watching it will still be able to appreciate the movie.

For those old enough to remember, Im sure it brought back many childhood memories. For those who are new to superman, this film was a fantastic way to introduce our new generation of children to a hero who stood for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Qualities that most of our society seem to have forgotten.

I also felt chills at the start of the movie as the theme song was playing. I’ve always been a fan of all installments and so I was very much looking forward to this one. I agree too, the plot of the story also left some loose ends. I’m not sure if they’ve contemplated the idea of a sequel but there’s some unanswered questions. I’ll give it a 7 out of 10.

I’m definately going to go and see this movie very soon. I can’t believe both you and Jorgeq got goosebumps when the song began. The gentleman who plays Superman is my age, heh, that’s a trip!

I don’t know about Superman impreganating Lois and then leaving thing – seems very un-Superman to me and I’m sure it wouldn’t have been in the originals.

I’ll admit that I enjoyed this movie, but the part in me that isn’t too fond of movies based on comics kinda took over here and there. The effects were good, and I agree with you on Routh acting in such a way that would make the late Reeves proud. However, the dialogue lacked substance.. it could have been better.

Nonetheless, it was entertaining, the opening credits was just amazing.

I loved it, seen it 3 times already and counting…
    Great story

Although I felt that “Batman Begins” is a better superhero film and that the 1978 film is superior to Superman Returns (it felt too much like a homage instead of a standalone film), I feel that the character was respected and the visuals of the story was awesome. I was expecting much more from this film (hey, it’s Bryan “GOD” Singer at the helm), but oh, well, that’s what sequels are for.

I felt that this is the closing of a trilogy (of the first 2 Superman films) of which to jumpstart a whole new film franchise.
