Unleashed Unrated (DVD)

As with all Jet Li films, the action sequences in unleashed were really good. He is hard hitting and no nonsense. I thought the movie was decent. Again, the fight scenes were really good but it tried too hard to provide a bit of dramatics to the mix. I wasn’t feeling it at all. This was definately not one of Jet Li’s best films. I still think Romeo Must Die was his big American hit.

Synopsis:

A man treated like a dog and raised as a fighting machine his entire life, ends up in a coma and is taken in the care of good people, but his sinister owner is looking to retrieve his most prized possession: a non stop human weapon triggered by the collar leashed on his neck.

  1. I have to agree with you. This movie lacked in a lot of areas for me. Of course, being a Jet Li movie, you can expect good fight scenes, but thats about all you can expect…

  2. gotta disagree. this is one of his better american movies. romeo must die was decent, had good fight scenes, but was pretty cheesy. now, jet li is no de niro when it comes to acting…but unleashed provided something a little bit more than just: fight. talk. fight.
besides the fighting in unleashed would kick romeo must die’s fight scenes.

  3. Ed, we are talking about the movie as a whole. Romeo must die was much better than this one. At least it had Eye Candy with Aaliyah. This didn’t have much of anything except great moves by Jet Li, which I said was hard hitting and top notch.

  4. okay then. unleashed was a better movie than romeo must die, IMO.

romeo must die had the whole romeo and juliet theme going on, and they gave it a cool modern, martial arts twist. unleashed is an entirely original story, a pretty good one at that. it had so much more character depth than did romeo must die. jet li’s character was emotionally fragile, and most martial arts movies never depict the heros in this way.
in romeo must die, jet li’s character did have a background and a tragedy that happened to him, but it was not as fleshed out. he’s a fighting machine, that’s how the audience sees him. whereas, in unleashes, jet li is flawed. in turn, he is more human. i mean, i agree that this movie wouldn’t have too much going for it if it weren’t for the fights. it’s no lord of the rings…not by a long shot. but neither is romeo must die.

just my opinion man. but i gotta agree, aaliyah over that fugly chick in unleashed any day.
