You will not need the exam history code when applying for a job. If you have taken the exam the test information is already in there. Dont worry about the exam history code. If you have filled out all the information in the ecareers, which is part of usps.com, and applied for a position you will be considered for the posted position. But dont be in a hurry it will take at least 2 weeks after the closing date of the position to be contacted, 2 more weeks to fill out a background check online, another 2 weeks to be contacted about a driving test, after that I’m not sure because that is where i am standing. Driving test happens tomorrow.
I took my test 2 months ago and received an 82.7. I recently applies for a job at a small town about 15 minutes away from where I live. At the interview she took a look at my test score and gave me a look so terrible I almost cried. Like an 82.7 was the worst score she had ever seen. Made me feel about 1/2 an inch tall. I ended up not getting the job, and the girl who did get the job had a 79 on her exam…
Hi Everybody,
I am new to this site but I have a question ? Does anyone know what exam 805 and 806 are?
I’ve gone through the testing and scored well. The letter consenting to do a background check came, which I did. The letter consenting to send the background check information to the Postal Service came less than a week later. I did that last Saturday. Everything happened so quickly and efficiently up until that point, I figured I’d get a letter in the mail that week with an interview date and time. Unfortunately, that letter hasn’t come yet. I’m quite hopeful to receive my interview letter in the week to come. Anyone have any insight on my dream job coming through? It’s a rural carrier route for a small town in Washington state. I wish everyone the best.
Truly,
Eric
I’ve just begun to research a career with the Postal Service. I’ve registered on the usps.gov site, and actually have spoken to a postmaster about a rural position about 50 miles from here (part-time, one day a week). I’d be HAPPY to take that position, as there is no demand upon me to get out there and keep a roof over my family’s head or provide insurance benes (hubby, God bless him, he does that for us).
I’m a little confused, however. How does one actually get the opportunity to TAKE the exam? I’ve seen as part of the USPS.com (either that or .gov as both sites exist), that you can enter a ZIP code to see when the next exam date is in one’s district; however, there is NO indication an exam is being administered in the entire state (are they THAT saturated that they’re not even administering the exam????).
It’s a “which comes first, the chicken or the egg?” question. Which comes first, the exam or the application for a position???? If I register on the usps.gov site, does ANYTHING happen either via email or USPS mail? ….other than the cookie cutter email that the registration is complete?
Thanks
D
Hi D,
Just to let you know I applied for a temp.position on the USPS site was called in to an interview and was told that the civil service test was on hold due to cut backs but they are still hiring TC or TRC’S.It’s a long process I had to wait a couple of weeks before I was called in to an interview but it will happen it just takes time with them.
Help! I need help in figuring out why I am “ineligigle” now: I have taken the 473 Test twice, first April 07,then in Dec 07. I scored low, 77 then 76, but was still called in for interviews, etc. Not hired. First exam was completely proctored, and the second was proctored partially – the personality test About You I was allowed to take at home. This week I was up for eligibility to retest, so I accepted. The info advised me that this test score would replace any previous and I had to agree to conditions. I got the invitation to take the About You again, and the instructions at top before I began explained that I could stop and save test results and return to test, but that my overall time limit was 36 hours. I finished the first 100 of 150 which was more or less the personality part, and then chose to stop and complete the next 50 this morning. I was a little concerned when I used my computer later and realized that the test was still running and timing me – somehow I had not logged out. This morning my email had an urgent message from USPS testing notifying me that I had begun but not completed the online test and I had until 36 hours total to do so. I used the link to return and finish exam, which I did in quick time because the time I had accidentally lost the night before was gone, but I managed. I clicked submit exam and then went back to email to see my results. The results showed that the test was complet eon 4/17 but not 4/18 when it actually occured and MOST upsetting -
I apparently failed!! I am now ineligible for ALL job positions under the 473 until 8/09!! No score was given, it just says ineligible. Then I checked the few positions that I had applied for – one I was in Hiring Status – they had removed Hiring Status and replaced not accepted as did the PO which I was testing for as well…. I am so upset, I have been trying to improve my test score now for a year, and apparently I have a less than passing average and did not even get to take the proctored exam!! Is there a possibility that a scoring error occured, or worse…. did only the first 100 answered on 4/17 count since I chose to stop and save??
If ANYONE has any info on this issue, please post back…. I have to wait until Monday to call the few numbers I have to try and reach USPS testing as so far the email question I sent them they have yet to respond…..
:) and hope you have a better day than me:(
Hi Jana,
do not be discourage, next time to take the test, make sure you finished ALL Question before you are loggoff.
In the meantime, keep practice the test until you familiar with the process ,it will help you the next try.
I worked for USPS in 12 years
I have taken the postal exam 473. hours later i recieved an email which was my “Notice of Result”. i need help interpreting this. it has the job title, basic rating, the last two i understand exp. date and retest date. under job title i have a list of 9 different positions for which i believe i have qualified for since i have recieved no ineligible in the basic rating column. the different job listings have a level after it for example sales and services associate level 5. mail handler level 4. rural carrier level 0. markup clerk automated no level. i figured i’d be entry level since i’m trying to get hired… is level 0 entry and level 5 is higher because of my score??? I guess i should of asked this first.. is the Basic Rating my score??? i sent an email to usps asking some basic questions like
1. how do i intrepret my score?
2. do i need to update my profile after taking the exam?
3. can i apply out of state?
i recieved a response that i should keep an eye out for future mailings containing information about your application status. This does not help me so if anyone out there can enlighten me i would appreciate it…
thanks
bill

The 804 is an actual road test given to you in your personal vehicle or if you don’t have one in a supplied vehicle by request. Information for the 804 test was sent in your assesment package.
Did you find out if the basic rating is your score? I am having the same trouble understanding my test results. I have 4 pages worth of job postings & then a bunch of different scores in the basic ratings section. So does that mean I failed?
Hello
I would like to know how long it takes to be called back to take the exam 805. I have taken the exam 804(Initial Road test) and passed. Now, I have contacted the Supervisor and asked how long it would take, but he told me to just wait. From your experience how long does it take? I have taken exam 804 July 30. Does it nornally take a few months, what are the variables in the decision process. I was thinking that there have been some setbacks. What are your thoughts?
Hi EVERYONE,
The Postmaster said that I have the job as a mail carrier. I have taken the road test, drug test and did paper for the background check. Now I’m waiting of my backgound check to come back can anyone tell me how long do I have to wait for my background check to come back?
I have filled out the application, now I have been contacted to take the 473 exam online. Anyone have any tips for me? What does the exam consist of and how is it laid out. Is there a website to take a sample practice test for this exam at no cost to me.
Go to your local libray to check out the 473 battery exam
Or with 30 bucks, you could buy it at Barn and Noble , or Border book store.
Good luck to you, keep practice.
i took the exam and i am pretty sure i got 95-100% right. the thing is i only got an 84 on my basic rating. THis means I bombed the “personality” portion of the test. Basically, i just answered what I thought they would want to hear instead of being honest. This is so stupid… I really don’t understand how you can basically mess up my application because of absurd questions like … do you get annoyed when people insult you? like ok this is ridiculous. there IS NO RIGHT ANSWER FOR RETARTED QUESTION LIKE THIS.
I am a 25 year postal second generation veteran. The most important thing to do is send a letter within a year requesting to stay on the register. They drop everyone on the list that does not do this. The law states that they must hire everyone on the list who is eligible. They can not give another test untill they exhaust the register. Write the letter, stay on the list; you will get hired.
Who do I write the letter to ask to stay on the register?
I just took exam 473 and scored an 86. I applied for a position and got a request for me to authorize the background check. Any ideas on how long the rest of the process will take, considering I took the test less than a week ago ?
