The Return of the King (Extended)

I have attended the opening night of every Lord of the Rings motion picture. It was something I had to watch first. Being on Guam, we get the public world premiere before the rest of the world. Guam is a day ahead of the continental United States and since we are U.S. soil, featured films such as the Lord of the Rings show a day before everyplace else.

Anyway, back to the review. I’ve been collecting the extended cuts of the Trilogy since their initial release. Over the break I was suppose to attempt a marathon and watch all three movies simultaneously. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Way too long! Twelve hours on the tube was too much for me. So last night I popped in the Return of the King Extended Cut. It was a really good feature, and the additional footage helped with the storyline a bit. Although I liked it, I also thought that it was good that those sections were cut in the theatrical release because the film would have been extremely long. There was a section added that had Sarumon and Gandalf in a dialogue for over 10 minutes. Not a good idea in the theaters. Although it did provide a bit of forshadowing about what was going to happen next. Something that wasn’t provided in the original release.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and I would recommend the extended editon to any hardcore Lord of the Rings Trilogy fan. If you have not added the Lord of the Rings to your DVD library, be sure to pick up the extended cut. It was well worth the extra five or six bucks I paid for it.
